Athletic Association in-
termediate hockey
tournament held, on the
weekend at the. Hensall and
district community centre,
Taking the A division and a
cheque for $400 were the
Zurich Buckeyes with an 64
:victory over Mitchell in the
teurnament's . final game

the defending A champs,
The injury riddled Exeter
Mohawks had a fine four-
namentandwith their 84 win
over Brussels Sunday af-
ternoon took the B title,
Association president Les
Gardner said he was very
pleased with the tournament
and made note that all
squads . were very corn-
petitive; Other. teams par-
ticipating were from
Avonton,. Goderich, Forest
and Hensall.
In the A final Zurich
received' strong • per-
formances from Kim
McKinnon and Richard
Schilbe who scored three and
two goals,- respectively.
Zurich. . overcame a 2-1
deficit at the end of the first
period with Schilbe scoring
the only Zurich goal. John
Graham had the- assist.
The second period saw
Zurich score two of their
three goals on the power-
play.

With a Mitchell player off
for, tripping, Pat Bedard.
scored three minutes later
with an assist from Weido.
The final goal of the game
from the stick -of Kim
McKinnon as he combined
with Bedour and Pat Bedard
for Zurich's seventh score.
The Buckeyes Made their
way into the championship
as a result of a 7-2 win
over the Hensall Sherwoods
in the semi-final. -.Saturday
and a 9-2 walloping of the
Goderich Flyers Friday.
In the Hensall-Zurich
game Schilbe and Randy
macionon had two goals
each for the Buckeyes with
single counters: !credited to
Kerry Bedard, Kim
McKinnon and Weido, Terry
Caldwell and Dwight Conaitt
had the Hensall goals,
Schilbe and Randy
McKinnon and Graham had
a pair of goals each in the
Goderich game with the
other goals coming from
Weido, Ron DeSjardine, Pat
Bedard and Kim. McKinnon,
Steeper stars for Exeter
Tom Steeper had a fine
game in goal to aid the
Mohawks in their victory
over Brussels. Simday.
Steeper was picked up for
the tournament from the
Parkhill Merchants due to an
injury to regular Mohawk
goalie John Hayter. Also
playing for the Exeter squad
in the tourney were former
Mohawk and Exeter Hawk
Brian Taylor plus Don
Heywood and Rolph
from the Exeter rec loop,
The game was a back-and-
forth affair with the teams
tied at four-all going into the
third nerind.
Dave-Jackson scored the
first of his two goals with
four minutes gone in the first
frame. Mike Anstett had the
assist.
Brussels then scored two
goals but the Mohawks came
back to tie the game as Brad '
Datars found the range with
less than three minutes left
in the period. Brian Taylor
and Jack Chipchase had the
assists,
Midway through the
second period Mitchell
regained, the lead but Exeter
came back with two goals
with4ess than a minute left
in the period to put them-
selves-in the lead for the first
time.
Bergman scored the, first
of two goals with only 54
seconds left on the clock,
Luke Gagnon and Taylor had
the assists .1
Veteran defenceman Jack
Chipchase put the. Mohawks
in the lead as he scored at the
19:54 mark. Bergman added
the assist.
Exeter took command of
the game in the final period
on goals by Bergman, Brion
Penhale, Jackson and
Taylor. Jim Guenther had
two assists with singles
going to Taylor, Ron Moore,
Anstett and Gagnon.

A board of 11 officers was
elected for 1981 by the
Exeter Centennial Soccer
Club at the South Huron Rec
Centre Wednesday night.
Seventeen people attended
the public meeting, in
response to an appeal for
assistance With a program of
minor soccer locally.
The club's 1981 executive
includes: Martin DeBryun,
president; Mike Cregon,
vice-president; Wendy Sch-
midt, secretary; Nancy
Quinn, treasurer; George
Eisenschink, match
secretary; Simon Van Dam,
registrar; Larry Hern, Peter
Boersma , Rene Van
Bruaenen and John Devlin,
counsellors; and Jack
Wilson, press release officer.
During 1980 the Exeter
organization sponsored
teams for about 140
youngsters in four Minor
soccer divisions, and ad-
ministered a senior team in
the Ausable league, A
similar pattern has been
followed for the past several
years.
The first meeting of the
new executive is scheduled
for 8 p.m., Tuesday, January
6, 1981, at the Exeter
