WILLIAM ROHDE THAMES ROAD Mr. & Mrs. William Rohde visited Tuesday evening with Mr. & Mrs. Arnold Cann, Mr. & Mrs. Howard Cunnington 'and family visited Friday. evening with Mr. Fred Cunnington, Centralia. Many people from this community attended the reception and dance at Kirkton-Woodham Com- munity Friday evening ffor Mr. & Mrs. Allan Van Massenhoven (nee Shirlee Ballantyne) bride and groom of Friday. They were married in Thames Road Church. Congratulations to Allan and Shirlee. The ladies of the U.C,W. catered to the meal and also the lunch after the dance. Mr. & Mrs. William Rohde were Saturday evening guests with Mr. Marguerite Gibson, London. Mr. & Mrs. Alvin Passmore' were Saturday evening guests with Mr. & Mrs. Bert Barry, London. Mrs. Pearl Baynham was a guest also. Leaving Mr. Robert Hume has accepted a position in Glencoe with the Hydro. His duties are to commence December 1. He sure will be missed in this community as he was Superintendent of the Sunday School, a Sunday OptithiatS of Stephen Dear Sir, one '3Csltu that bs record Saturday should w book jai l go o as into athv have been. The weather man played havoc with our functiens. First of all the inch or so of snow which covered the ground was more of an attraction for the kids than the gruelling task of trying to knock down pins at the bowling alleys. I suppose that when I was a youngster the idea of throwing snowballs and building snowmen took precedence over anything else, we'll have to wait until this coming Saturday to see if the kids missed their hour and one half of bowling fun, My efforts as publicity chairman failed as far as the road rally was concerned. Only four cars showed up to participate. Again theblame was put on the weather. To me the snow just added more of a challenge. Ron Morrison and his organizing team put many hours and a lot of thought into this event. They were disappointed but are not discouraged. The rally has not been cancelled, just postponed to a later date. More to come, about when the next attempt will be in a later edition. Many members are going to come to me with the phrase "I told you so", when referring to the attendance at our Saturday night dance. It turned out to be more of a house party than a dance, but for those of us who did show, a good time was had, There will be another dance on the 13th of this month. Minor hockey will be presenting a home and home tournament with the good people of Drayton, Ontario. this Saturday, All teams will be. participating. Come out and watch your teams in action, you won't be disappointed, The Opti-Mrs. have a 50-50 draw going to raise funds for the needy families in the township. Tickets are available from any members and will be sold at the booth during the tournament. The draw will be made at the arena following the tourney. It may surprise some of you to know that even with our social services and Welfare systems there are still a number of families who are in dire need of assistance. In regards to those families the Opti-Mrs. have been doing a splendid job of helping them, Last week I expressed gratitude to the members of our local fire fighters. I apologize for neglecting the members of the Crediton force. Those men also waved a generous portion of their yearly volunteer pay so that the taxpaying citizens would not be burdened with the entire load of the cost for new, and up to ' date, fire trucks. Thanks fellows. Sunday, December 7 at 10 a.m, our first club meeting will be held at the hall. It is a regular meeting. Anyone who is not a member, but is male and 19 or over, will be . welcomed. Why not come out and find out what our club is all about? Lt. Governor Bill has informed me that there will be a zone meeting following our club one. Any of you members wishing to attend should stay at the hall,. Have you decided what you are going to do New Years Eve? If not, tickets will soon be available from club members for our party- Cost is $7,00 per person with a maximum of 100 tickets being sold. We have always had a good party and expect this year's will be just as much fun. Our hall is just about in your own yard so you will not have too far to drive. An attraction has been added for the Santa Claus parade on the 14th. While Santa skates around the ice • after the parade you will be entertained by live music from a local group at the arena. Plan to take your children and make it a family skating afternoon. There is a good Rec League in our area for all you hockey fans. From 7 p.m. to. 11 p.m. the following teams do battle on Sunday evenings, Glanvilles, Optimists, RSM, Zubicks, Mt. Carmel and Crediton. These teams make for an enjoyable evening. Outstanding Skate-A-Thon pledge sheets and monies should be turned in as soon as possible, either to me or to the arena management, There are still a large number not in. The C.G.I.T. girls are sponsoring a baby sitting service in the church basement Saturday December 6 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at a special fee, Fellowship meeting The first Fellowship group meeting was held Sunday evening with a good crowd in attendance. It is to be in Thames Road Church. United Church During the story time for the children in the church service on Sunday morning Pastor Ross Hargreaves assisted Cameron Hume to light the first white candle in the• advent wreath which means purity. The scripture lesson was read from Isaiah 2: 1-5 and Matthew 24: 36-24. The sermon was entitled "Hold yourselves ready...because the Son of Man Will Come". Mr. Bob Hume spoke a few words and he quoted Revelation 3-20. a SENSIBLE CHRISTMAS FOR TI3 HANDYMAN WHO WANTS THE BEST f <
