• Miss Kathleen Metherall
who is a missionary nurse
home on furlough from
India, She showed pictures
and gave :a wonderful
commentary. She was
thanked by Mrs. Phil Hem.
Pastor Hargreaves
pronounced the Benedication
and cookies and tea brought
an enjoyable afternoon to a
close. Miss Metherall. will be
returning to India in March.

Institute was held WedneS,,
day afternoon at the home of
Mrs. Arnold Blake. with. 18,
members answering the roll
call, "Kids say the Darndest

Mrs, Dave Kestle, con-
vener of Family and. Con-
sumer Affairs, gave several
interesting readings and
comments about consumers,
then introduced Mrs. E.
Moore, Supervisor for the
Canadian Red Cross
Hamemakers and Jean
Walsh, one • of the
homemakers.
Mrs. Moore explained how
the trained Red Cross
Homemakers go into a home
in the event of emergency or
illness to provide care for
the family, Homemakers
also participate in communi-
ty "Home Care" programs
to assist the convalescing
patient and thus ease the
shortage of hospital beds.
Prize winning poems on
"Remembrance Day"
written by Megan Henry and
Gerald Cunningham were
read by June Henry and Bet-
ty Coughlin. Excellent
reports on the London Area
Convention,.held in S.
Marys in late October were
given by Marion liodgsen
and Hazel Cunningham.
Following lunch, a sale of
plants, homemade jams,
jellies, pickles and baking
tea place with. Hazel Can-
ningharri as auctioneer and
thirty five dollars was
realized.
Due to the senior citizens
bus trip December 10 the
December W.I. meeting will
be held a week early
December 3 at the home of
Mrs, Art Hodgins.

attended a bridal shower in
the church basement
Monday evening for Miss
Shirlee Ballantyne bride
elect of November 28.
Amid decorations of corn,
a bale of straw, stuffed dolls
and animals, Shirlee was
escorted to a chair under an
umbrella by Mrs. Gerald
Riehl to the strains of Walk
Hand in Hand played by Mrs.
Reg Hodgert. Mrs. Hodgert
played other selections on
the piano.

Staffa Women's Institute
sponsored a community
concert in the township hall
on Friday evening with a
good crowd in attendance.
President Mrs. John Miller
was chairlady for the
evening. Katie Kerslake
gave a demonstration of her
straw dolls and ornaments.
Both the Brownies and
Beavers were present. The
Brownies along with their
leader Mrs. Dave Brown,
explained their opening
exercises to everyone. The,
Beavers along with their
leaders,Mrs. Robin Daynard
and Mrs. John Scott and
their representative from
the cubs Mark Cronin
demonstrated their opening
and closing exercises and
sang some Beaver songs.
Both Mrs. Jean Carey and
Mrs. Bert Daynard delighted
both young and old with their
entertaining readings. A
piano instrumental "On
Parade" played by Joyce
Fell was enjoyed by all.
A variety of stepdancing,
clogs, jigs and reels was
enjoyed by all. Those par-
ticipating were Karen
introduced the bride and her
relatives and friends who
were sitting with her on the
platform. Mrs. Johns led in
singing.
Theysang Daisy, Daisy but
put the bride and groom's
names in, and Let the rest of
the world go 'by. Miss. Mary
Jans Johns tap danced twice
which was much enjoyed.
Mrs. Ken Duncan read a
humorous story "A Pet Sow
Called Marjory".
Mrs. Don Richardson read
a nicely wordedaddress, and
Shelly Miller wheeled in a
decorated wheelbarrow
filled with ',gifts and Tanya
Riehi carried in gifts and
placed them in the
wheelbarrow,
After opening the gifts
Shirlee thanked everyone for
beautiful and useful gifts. A
delicious smorgasboard
lunch was then partaken of
to bring an enjoyable
evening to a close,
