Eager Beavers busy
A. tlallowe't n party was
held with Coloay "C' being
invited to share our movie
"The Sandcastles", popcorn
balls,witches' brew and
many Hallowe'en games.
Our recent. Lucan Beaver
Investiture saw Lois Hodgins
invested as our new leader,
and. John Hodgins, Adam
Stezenko, David Pocock,
Jason Maier and Darcy
Maguire were invested as
"Eager Beavers".
"Sharing and Caring" was
the theme for Remembrance
Day as the Beavers attended
the Remembrance. Day
service at Granton on
November 11. They joined
with the Granton Beavers,
Cubs and Scouts to parade to
the Cenotaph for the service
and afterward they gave
away Canadian flags which
they had made to share, as a
symbol of their caring.
The boys were pleased to
meet the Granton Beavers
and see familiar faces. Hot
chocolate was enjoyed when
they arrived back as there
were a few chattering teeth
from such a cold wind.
The group is anticipating
Christmas, when all three
colonies will have their party
together and give a
Christmas gift in keeping
with the theme, to send to the
Muncey Indian Reserve,
before taking a break for the
holidays.
Anglicans
remember ,
Remembrance Day was
recognized at Holy Trinity
Anglican Church Sunday
morning and. Rev. Bruce
Pocock spoke on "Tiding of
Trouble" based on Luke 21.
Christ spoke in response to
the comment on the splen-
dour of the temple and was
moved to prophesy. From
this passage we learn certain
basic things about Jesus and
about the Christian life,
Jesus could read the signs
of history. He saw into the
future, to the time when the
temple would be destroyed.
Jesus was completely
honest. "This, he said to his
disciples, is what you must
expect if you choose to follow
me".
Jesus promised that his
followers would never meet
their tribulations alone.
Jesus spoke of a safety that
overpasses the threats of this
earth, "Not a hair of your
head will be harmed.", He
said,Scriptures were read by
"/ r 'Marion Hodgins and Loretta
Dickson, and the welcoming
committee was Gloria and
Penny Hodgins.
Flowers at the alter were
placed in memory of all
those who paid the supreme
sacrifice in both World Wars.
Other flowers in the Sanc-
tuary were from the funerals
of the late Heber Davis and
Archie Sinclair.
A reminder: This Sunday a
film "Many Different Gifts"
about the Eucharist will be
shown and Morning Prayer
will be shortened. Next
Sunday, November 30, Rev.
D.L. Howlett, District
Secretary for the Canadian
Bible' Society will be the
guest speaker to bring us up-
to-date on what the Bible
Society is doing today.
The 1st Lucan Beaver
Colony "A" has been very
busy since starting the new
season, The Colony Meets
each Tuesday after school,
from 3:30 to 5 p.m, at St.
Patrick's Seheol. Enrolment
is strong this year with 20
boys, five leaders and
Several junior leaders,
At the first meeting the
boys were divided into
"Lodges" and received their
Lodge Badges and Beaver
Books. The following week
we discUssed the animals
that represent their lodges
and then went for a ramble
outside,
October 14, the Colony was
present when two of our
"Eager Beavers" Eddie.
VanKerkoerle and Robert
Vandenberg, Swam up to
Cubs in a ceremony at the
Lucan Public School. It was
good to see so many parents
and friends attend. Refresh-
ments and treats were
served after the ceremony.
A joint meeting of the
three Colonies was held
November 5 at which time
two new leaders and nine
new boys were invested.
Again strong parental
support was shown.
The highlight of the fall
season was a trip to a beaver
dam, and although no
beavers were sighted, the
boys examined the dam and
c
observed gnawed trees, the
evidence of the beaver's
activities, The outing was
both informative and en-
joyable for all.
The Colony held a
Hallowe'en Party on October
28, when, dressed in
imaginative costumes, the
boys played several games,
dunked for apples and were
read a scary ghost story,
The remainder of the
season promises to be full of
activities and.surprises,
Colony "B" of the Lucan
Beavers has been busy since
the tour of centennial
Museum, London,
Thanksgiving found them
making turkey table centres
out of paper bags and
learning of the reason behind
Thanksgiving Day,
An Indian theme was
picked up from our tour and
continued for the next couple
of weeks, Besides a
discussion about our native
Canadian Indian friends and
their early hardships . when
settlers arrived, The
Beavers made crafts of
Indian Headdresses,
tomahawks, and beads.
These crafts were well liked
and were seen on a few little
"Indian boys" around town
on Hallowe'en. Dwayne
Maier swam-up into Cubs on
October 14 to become one of
the Lucan pack.
The turn-about of time to
accommodate the new craft
instructor, Sely Trail, from
Fanshawe College, with
crafts and cards at 1 p.m.
with business and lunch
following, worked out o.k. at
the meeting on Thursday.
Lovely fabric flowers was
the craft, with preliminary
instruction for "homework"
on the "snowmen" for
tomorrow, Thursday. Ethel
Crouch won the prize for the
day.
Euchre, convened by
Verna and Ed Dowdall was
enjoyed with prizes won as
