First Cori Gated walked
out on the stage. She was
dressed in a box pleat skirt
and a pillbox hat. Literally.
Next came Michelle
Afigelo wearing fashionable
.painter pants‘ Splattered
with paint.
Then there was Sadie Sack
wearing the latest Grain and
Feed fashion and carrying a
clutch. No, not a clutch purse
-- a clutch, right out of her
car.
Was this really what the Xi
Gamma Nu chapter of the
Beta Sigma Phi sorority
expected the best dressed
women in Exeter to be
wearing this fail?
Cori Gated turned out to be
Verla Russell underneath
the cardboard boxes,
wearing the egg carton
sandals. Michelle Angelo is
Eileen Ross, and Sadie
Sack's alias is Heather
Rogers. The zany fashion
show put on by the sorority
turned out to be a great ice
breaker for an evening of fun
on the Lucky 13 Ladies Night
Out.
A sell-out crowd of about
300 enjoyed the evening at
the South Huron Rec Centre.
The program started with
cocktails and a. chicken
cordon bleu dinner catered
by Jennie Rowe.
Mistress of Ceremonies
Joanne Bowen caught
everyone's eye in her red
sequin-trimmed tuxedo. The
evening's activities included
a children's fashion show, a
singer, a ladies fashion show
and of course, the zany
fashion show. The evening
concluded with a Monte
Carlo night.
Fashions for the show
were all provided by local
shops, and models were all
local ladies. JoAnne Burke
Dinney wrote and gave the
commentary for the
childrens and ladies
fashions.
Children's fashions were
presented by the Junction,
Stedmans, Gerrards and
Little People. Shoes were
courtesy of Wuerths and
Smyths.
Colleen McGuire played
guitar and mouth organ, and
sang several numbers. She
featured some old Irish
favourites, as well as some
Roger Whittaker songs.
Ladies fashions were
provided by Boyle's Ladies
Wear, Gerrards, Stedmans,
The Junction, and Anita's
Ladies Wear;Sports fashions
were by Jerry Maclean and
Son Automotive and RSD
Sport Den. Shoes wers
provided by Smyths and
Wuerths. Accessories were
done by Anstett Jewellers,
Campbells Jewellers, and

An elemination draw was
held at intervals throughout
the evening. Every tenth
ticket drawn received a prize
donated by various area
merchants.
Several members of the
sorority said that they hoped
the Ladies Night Out would
become an annual event.
