United Church for Miss Cindy Mills, whose marriage to Charles Irvin of Brantford, takes place on Saturday, June 7. Mrs. Eric Chovancek was in charge of the arrangements and welcomed the guests. Roseanne St. Dennis favored with two selections on her accordion, followed by a humorous reading by Mrs. Percy Hodgins entitled "Marriage on the Rocks. Mrs, Kim. Bedfordland Miss. Sally Parker, assisted Cindy to open her many gifts, and when they were unwrapped, Cindy thanked everyone. Miss Sharon Mardlin was also honored with a com- munity shower at the United Church on May 26, Sharon will become the bride of Bernard Boland on Satur- day, June 14, Mrs. Ron Funston welcomed everyone and called on "Mrs. Robert Garrett to give two readings on "What is a man?" and "A mother's advice to her daughter". Assisting Sharon to..open her gifts was Brenda Borland, and Sharon's three. sister, Gayle Elson and Ruth and Ferric Mardlin. In thanking everyone for her ,many lovely gifts, Sharon said she was over- whelmed with such a beautiful shower, 'After refreshments, Sharon, who had been in Texas, following her career as a nurse, renewed her acquaintance with friends in Granton and area, Mother, daughter banquet Yellow and white was the theme for the Granton C.G,I.T. mother and daughter banquet, held in the Granton United Church on May 21. Stephanie Penman toasted the Queen, and asked the blessing. During the meal, each member commented on what she thought was the highlight for her, during the past year. Following the dinner, Bonnie Harloff welcomed the mothers and proposed a toast to them. Mrs. Stanley Malcolm replied. Mrs. Glen Jameson was chosen as this year's C.G.I.T, honorary mother and received a special cer'tif 'icate, presented to her by Stephanie Penman. Mrs. WM. Goes proposed toast to the girls and Eveline ,Vandernainnen replied in the form of a prayer. Colleen Malcolm welcomed the. Reverend and Mrs. Morden, who brought , greetings from. the Church, and Mrs. Wilfred Garrett brought greeting on behalf of the General U.C.W. after being welcomed by Amy Waugh, Margaret McGtiffin in- troduced the speaker for the evening, Mrs. Leroy Bryan, who told the girls to serve others and to help them- selves by prayer, acting on the prayer, and then thanking God for the results. Michele Malcolm thanked the speaker for her meaningful talk. Leader Mrs, Gordon McRobert presented the awards for special achievements, and merit certificates. Leader Mrs. Robert Harloff told in her remarks, of how the girls had really reached their goal this year by growing from crawling caterpillars to graceful flying butterflies, extending a wish to the group that they be set free in our community to discover and express the beautiful girls that they are in Christ. Marialranderminnen was the graduating C.G.I.T. speaker, and told of the graduation service in which she was a part, and related highlights of her C.G.I.T. years. The senior speaker was Joanne Goos who summarized the events of the past year with Christine Jones as the junior speaker talking of her first year in the group. A program was presented by all the girls and the evening ended with a prayer by Christine Currah. Leaders Mrs. Harloff and Mrs. McRobert deserve a lot of credit for the great leadership their have given this group of girls and Granton thanks them for giving their time and effort to such a worthy cause. At the C.G.I.T. meeting on May 28 plans were made to hold a "Family Hillbilly Dance" at the ,Lion's Pavilion on June 13.-,This is to raise money to help the national C.G.I.T. organization which is in, financial difficulty. It was decided to have Bob and Lila Foster provide the music and to have a sand- wich pot-luck lunch after the dance, Preparations are also being made for the Jamboree which includes girls from all across Ontario meeting at Wildwood Park for the weekend of June 20.
