Church news
At the United Church ReV.
Elwood Morden conducted
the Christian Family and
Mother's. Day Service, and
officiated with the
sacrament of baptism.
The following children
were baptized Chad Leslie,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm.
Lambourn and Norman
Gerrard, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Ronald Riddell,
Taking the text for his
sermon from the fifth
Commandment, "Honor thy
father and thy mother".
Rev, Morden entitled his
sermon "Do parents have
rights?"
There are three features in
our world today that make
this commandment very
timely, 1, Family Breakup,
modern homes today are
threatened by many things,
strict tyranical or too lenient
parents, the call of e few in
the Women's Liberation
Movement, begetting and
rearing children are more
rewarding than getting and
making money.
He said, parents have no
business coming to collect
their rights if they neglect
their duty, the parents duty
is to impart to their children
religion, faith, beliefs, and
values.
At St, Thomas
Anglican Chureh,Rev. Gregg
Smith conducted the
Christian Family Day
Service and preached on
faith and widsom, We who
have the gracious gift of
faith in Jesus. Christ, will
remain faithful believers of
the Gospel.
In the children's story
Rev. Smith gave each child a
few seeds to plant in the
garden, describing the care
they would need to become a
good plant, and likening the
seed to a child who needs a
mother's care to become a
good person.
Philippians 2:9-30 was the
Scripture passage used by
Rev, Glen Fretz to speak
about the Christian service
at the Granton Community
Bible Church on the
Christian Family Day.
Rev. Fretz stressed the
fact that as Christians "we
must not be so heavenly
minded, that we are no
earthly good".
