The stiffest fine of the court session was levied against Alexander Han- derer, RR 1 Crediton, who was fined $108 or 11 days on a charge of careless driving. Evidence revealed that as he rounded a curve in Huron Park on December 20, he came upon three boys playing hockey, and the vehicle struck one of the lads, seven-year-old Mark Rothbauer, who was hospitalized with minor injuries. The car had skidded 25 metres. The accused told the court he had slowed down on the curve but couldn't see the boys until the last minute. It Crosswalks to disappear Pedestrian crosswalks that have been painted on Main St. at the corners of John and James St. in the past will disappear this year. Councillor Ted Wright said the markings have given people the false impression that they were legal crosswalks, while that was not the case as they were intended only to funnel pedestrians to these two areas. He'said the town could be held liable for any accidents if. the lines were left on the highway. It had been suggested by the police that the painting be undertaken again this year, but that signs be added indicating to pedestrians that they were not legal crosswalks and motorists did not haVe to stop for people using the walkways. Councillor Don Cameron suggested it would be the "height of absurdity" to erect such signs. 90 in an $0 zone.
