Councillor Ted Wright

While changes in the
provincial offences act may
ease the loads on the courts,
council supported a
resolution from the village of
Grand Bend which called for
the fines levied to be the
same under the previous
legislation. Earlier it had
been indicated that the
courts in Huron would not be
lowering the fines.
Council accepted the Hay-
Hensall-Tuckersmith area
fire board's 1980 budget of
$11,667. Hay will pay
$2,916.75 which is a slight
increase compared to last
year, according to Hay
clerk-treasurer Joan
Ducharme.
The grass along the roads
in the township will be cut in
slightly more efficient
manner this year as council
approved the quote of Exeter
Ford Equipment for the
purchase of a new side
mount mower. The unit will
cost the township $1,674.

Hay council has given
their blessing to two minor
changes in the Dashwood
water system.
At their May meeting
Monday, council approved a
request from Harry Hartleib
for an extra water con-
nection. The township also
agreed to requests from ARC
Industries and Tillston
Plastics Limited for a two
inch service line to each
firm.
In two matters concerning
Exeter, the township turned
down a request for financial
support in the construction of
an addition to the fire hall.
Council also turned down a
request for a grant to the
Exeter midget hockey squad
which recently took a
provincial title.
Exeter council learned this
week that one loCal eye-sore
will be removed and they
took steps to clean up
another one.
However, the taxpayers
will be asked to pick up some
of the costs for one of those
two projects and could end
up paying for both.
Council agreed to accept a
payment of 27.6 per cent of
the outstanding taxes on the
former Brady Cleaners and
Laundeteria Ltd. building on
Main Street just north of
Slemin's Texaco.
That will result in a
Springer disaster relief fund.
Requested the Huron
county planning board to
draw, p a draft mobile home
bylaw to control develop-
ment along the Lake Road
West concession.
Turned down a severance
application from Jack
Gaiser for Lot 21, Concession
South Boundary.
Went along with a
severance application for the
estate of Murray Bell in
Tuckersmith township.
Had no objection to a
zoning change in Zurich
which will allow Don
Beauchamp to construct a
new food store.
Donated $50 to the Huron
Plowman's Association.
Authorized the issuance of
a certificate of compliance
County Health Unit to clean
up the property and add any
costs involved to the taxes.
The director of public
health inspections said it
presently constitutes a
public health nuisance in the
form of lumber, rubble and
other debris that can be
deemed as a "rodent har-
bourage."
Mayor Boyle suggested the
county were "passing the
buck" in asking council to
have the work undertaken,
noting that a tax arrears
situation also exists on this
property and there was no
guarantee that the costs
would be recovered.
However, council agreed
to have the property cleaned
up if the works department
can find time and failing
that, other methods will be
explored.
Boyle said that "the word
on the street is that it (pool
hall) has been sold."
