Murray Connelly and Rick Ingram, Seven minutes later Fred Campbell made it 2-0 with assists going to Lloyd Allan and Tony McDonald, In the third period, Jamie Caldwell, Steve Knight, Fred Campbell, and Rick Ingram scored for Hensall, Garry Koehler picked up two assists and Jim Ferguson and. Saints splurge In Monday's second game of the series, after a scoreless first period, the Saints broke loose with seven goals in the second period while the Sherwoods could make only one reply. Ken Vanos fired four successful shots in the middle frame to pace the Saints to victory. Ed Michniewicz was next with a 'pair of goals and a single score was added by Kyle Pederson. The lone middle period score for the Sherwoods came from the stick of Jamie Caldwell on a pass from Fred Campbell. Michniewicz, Pederson and Sherwood Hinze tallied in the third period for the College team. The final Hensel] score was fired by. Allan Taylor on a three-way combination with. Steve Knight and Fred Campbell. Leading the Saints in the assist department with three apiece were Ed Michniewicz, George Black and Rick Vanos. Firstheasa II win. Six straight goals in the second period allowed the Sherwoods to post their, first win of the series by an 8-6 score Wednesday night on home ice. The Saints jumped into a 3- 1. first period lead, but, fell behind by 7-4 after 40 minutes of play. Ed Michniewicz, Kyle Pederson and Sherwood Hinze were the firSt period marksmen for 'the Saints while Lloyd Allan replied for Hensall on a pass from Jamie Caldwell. Ed Michniewicz scored on a solo dash early in the second period to make the score 4-1 and then the Sherwoods went on their scoring rampage. Steve Knight started the scoring on a power play at 7.07 with assists going to, captain Jim Ferguson and Brian Campbell. In quick succession, Fred Campbell fired two suc- 'Park win which was achieved in overtime. In 'Saturday's game, Bob Rook and Colin Tripp scored the first two Huron Park goals. Blyth moved ahead 3-2 but Tony Jones fired the tying goal in the dying minutes of regular time. Bob Rook notched the winning goal in overtime and Russ Hayter scored into an empty net to ensure the victory. Kibler and Ed Michniewicz.. Each team scored two power play goals. The Saints took eight of the 15 minor penalties called by referees Tom Millar and Jeff O'Brien. Penalties help ' Penaltiesplayed a big part in Thursdai's win for the Sherwoods. While each team picked up 15 minor penalties, the Sherwoods scored on five power play attempts while the Saints could 'only score twice on power play ad- vantages. The first 14 minutes of the game belonged to the Sherwoods as they scored five straight goals. Later in the period, the Saints rebounded a bit with three goals. Allan Taylor and Jamie Caldwell each scored two goals in the early Hensel] scoring spree while Fred Campbell added a single. Kyle Pederson was on the firing end of two first period goals for the Saints. Getting the third was Ed Michniewicz. In the second period, Steve Knight, Gary Kyle and Lloyd Allan were the Hensall marksmen. Scoring for the Saints was captain Rick Vanbs. The Sherwoods clinched the win with three unan- swered goals in the final 20 minutes of play. Pulling the trigger were Rick Ingram, Jamie Caldwell and Steve The Exeter Mohawks battled their way into the South Huron League semi- final as they completed their upset win over the Goderich Merchants with a 6-2 win at the rec centre, Friday. The Tribe won the series by a 3-1 margin, having lost the series opener in Goderich Exeter now meets Hensall in the semi-final round with the first game of that best-of- five slated for Hensall on Thursday. Exeter hosts the second game on Friday and the third is slated for Heniall on Sunday. They now meet Alma- Logan. The first game was Played last night, Wed- nesday in Monkton with the second contest going to 12 'noon Saturday at the Stephen township arena. In the series against Blyth, 'each team won by 3-2 scores , and another game ended in a tie before Saturday's Huron Park bantams move ahead Knight. Wales - Marshall 7 Exeter broke a 2-2 tie early in the second period in Friday's game and then potted three unanswered tallies in the final frame to win going away. Goderich opened the scoring in the first frame, but the Mohawks came back with a pair before the initial frame ended.. Dan Preszcator fired the first on a play with Randy Gilfillan and Jeff Fuller, while Barry Baynham notched the secoed late in the stanza with I a single- handed performance. After the visitors evened the count after one minute of play in the second, Tom Ryan triggered the winner on a setup by Jim Guenther. The Tribe dominated play in the third as the Taylor brothers took over the scoring. Brad notched the first and Brian then popped a pair. Each assisted,on one of the goals, while Guenther and Brion Penhale also helped out on one each, John Hayter came up with several key saves to keep the Mohawks alive in the early going. Exeter picked up 11 'of the 20 minor penalties called in the contest, but neither team managed a power play ?ker. '101.eet Mohawks in Hensall;Thursday, in Exeter Friday Sherwoods advance on t ree straig ht wins The Lucan pee wees have taken a two game lead over Smithville in the Ontario Minor Hockey Association "D" semi-finals. The Lucan youngsters scored a close 3-2 win in Smithville Friday and came right back with a 5-3 win on Lucan ice on Sunday afternoon. Lucan won the toss of the coin and the third game in the best-of-five series will be played in Lucan tonight, Wednesday at 8 p.m. If a ,fourth game is necessary it goes Friday at 8 p.m. in Smithville with the fifth game, also if necessary in Lucan Sunday afternoon at 5 p.m. ,Sunday's game was a thriller from start to finish. Lucan jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, but, Smithville roared back to tie the score early in the second and set the stage for an exciting, third period. The game was a little more than five minutes old when Rick Emerr raced down the left side, cut right in on goal and picked up his own rebound to put Lucan ahead. Four minutes later, captain Brent Bannerman made the score 2-0 on a three-way combination with Rick Emery and Jesse Crawford. With a minute to go in the first period John Rubber put Smithville on the scoreboard on a pass from Jordan Fois. Midway through the second frame, Fois evened the score for Smithville. At the 10.40 Mark, Paul Foran of Lucan was parked at the side of the net to convert a pass from Rick Emery. The Lucan lead rose to 4-2 at 7.34 of the third period as Lester Arts cruised in front of the opposing net to deflect a shot from David Steeper. Stephen Neil• also assisted. Jordan, Fois counted for Smithville at 12.05 as he was left open in front of the Lucan net, With less than a minute to go Rick Emery 'of Lucan drew a penalty and Smith- ville quickly pulled their goalie for an actual two man skating advantage. After a couple of close calls around the Lucan goal, Lester Arts snared the puck near his own blueline and shot the puck straight down the ice into the empty Smith- ville net and it was all over. Lucan outshot Smithville by 29 shots to 24. In Smithville Friday night, it took a late surge by the Lucan youngsters to get the victory. The game was only 26 seconds old when Brent Bannerman Scored for Lucan on an unassisted effort, but, before the first period was over, Jordan Fols and. John Ruber had put Smithville in front 2-1. Brent Bannerman counted the only goal of the tecorid period to even the score on passes from David Steeper and Stephen Neil. The winning goal came at 3.37 of the third period from the stick of. Rick Emery with the assist going to Je ff 1VIcFalls. Ken Freeman and Wayne Hall are the Lucan pee wee coaches and Reg Crawford handles the managerial duties.
