defense forcing St. Marys to
shoot from the outside,
rather ineffectively. As well,
the Panthers managed to
control their own boards and
move the ball reasonably
well while keeping turnovers
to a minimum .
Doug Fischer led South
Huron with 13 points and 14
rebounds. Kevin Parsons
and Steve Riddell added
eight and four points,
respectively.
The midgets were able to
prolong their scoring drive
throughout the second half,
and thus win in a game, that
had been tied, 20-20 at the
half.
Supplying a large number
of these points was John
Kernick, who had a total of
18 for the game, Mike Glavin
and John Mol were next with
' 10 points each. Scott Brint-
nell and Mike Cant had three
and four, respectively.
This past weekend the
senior team attended a
tournament in Mitchell. In
the first round South Huron
met Chesley District High
School utilizing the fast
break, The Panthers had
little problem with ChesleY,
defeating them 65-30.
In the semi-final the team
met Lord Dorchester High
School at Dorchester. The
seniors controlled the boards
and again used the fast
break enroute to a con-
vincing victory, 6646 over
the. Beavers. This win ad-
vanced Exeter into the final
against Woodstock Huron
Park.
The exhausted South
Huron squad came up with a
rather poor showing against
Woodstock losing the final,
51-32.
On the whole however the
team had a good day
managing a total offence of
163 points for the three
games. Besides executing
well on offence the team
played an inspired game on
defence using both zone and
man to-man variations.
Leading South Huron in
the point standings for the
day were Doug Hoffman
with 33 points and John
Bryne with 29. As well, Dave
Woodward and Steve Horn '
played well adding 27 and 24
points respectively.
Rounding out the scoring
effort for the Panthers were
Dave Bell, 20, Matt McClure
18; Don Beaver, 13.
Despite their loss in the
final, the team gained
valuable experience which
should prove useful in the
near future.

Two of Exeter's minor
hockey teams were
eliminated in OMHA playoff
games with St. Marys this
week, while two others are
on the brink of elmination.
The local atoms and
bantams were ousted three
straight by the stone town
crew, while the pee wees and
bantam II squad trails their
sets by 2-0 counts.
The Exeter midgets took a
2-1 lead in games in their
best-oHive series while the
midget II team remains idle,
awaiting the winner of a St.
Marys-Lambeth set.
Midgets move ahead
The local midgets opened
their series successfully with
a 6-3 win on home ice,
Wednesday, and after
dropping a 2-0 count on
Saturday, they took a lead in
the set with a 5-4 win in St.
Marys the following day.
The series resumes tonight
at the rec centre.
Exeter took 'a 4-0 read in
the series opener and then
coasted to their decisive win.
Dave Underwood and Pete
Tuckey paced the attack
with a pair of goals each. The
singles were recorded by
Dave Jackson and Mike
Murray.
Rick Lindenfield drew a
pair of assists, while helping
out on one goal each were
Tuckey, Mike Clark, Jamie
Chaffe, Dave Shaw and
Jackson.
Saturday afternoon in St.
Marys, the locals couldn't
find the range as they were
stoned 2-0 as the home crew
scored on a power play in the
second and added the clin-
cher midway , through the
third.
Exeter also lost the ser-
vices of Jamie Chaffe
through an injury and Dave
Jackson picked up a game
suspension.
However, they returned to
St. Marys the next day with a
patch up lineup that included
Bill Glover, who was ex-
pected to sit out the balance
of the season with a shoulder
injury. The fleet centreman
proved he could still play
despite his sore shoulder as
he potted a pair of goals to
pace the 5-4 win.
After spotting St. Marys an
early lead, Exeter bounced
back with five straight and
then had to hang on as the
home crew attempted to get
the equalizer. They scored
three times in the last two
and a half minutes, but that
was as close as they came.
Adding singles in the win
were Dave Shaw, Pete
Tuckey and Bill Renning.
Shaw also recorede three
assists, and Tom Coates had
a pair while helping out on
one each were Tuckey, Mike
Murray, and Rick Lin-

day, they pogted a 4-0 win
over the local pee wees, who
held an edge in regular
season play but have failed
to live up to their potential in
the first two series contests.
Atoms ousted
As expected, the St. Maryg
atoms ousted Exeter. They
have yet to be beaten in
league play.
However, the local
youngsters gave two sur-
