Another area that showed
large gains was in the in-
cidence of wilful damage. In
the past year, a total of 90
incidents were investigated
with total damage to
property being listed at over
$10,000. Restitution was
made in just under half that
amount and there were nine
males charged with various
offences.
There were 128 thefts last
year with total loot of almost
$17,000 of which about $7,000
was recovered. There were

recovered. Seventeen people
were charged as a result of
police investigations.
Nine motor vehicles

charges, and there were 22
fraud investigations with all
but $30 of the $1,049 being

charged.

Police statistics. up
Although the number of
accidents increased by 21
last year, Police Chief Ted
Day reports that the injury
total and the property
damage in those accidents
actually declined in 1979.
There were 166 accidents
last year with 16 injuries and
property damage of $83,235.
The injury total was down
over 50 percent from 1978 to
16 and the Chief credited the
use of seat belts with that
reduced statistic.
The property damage was
down about $29,000 over 1978.
About 75 percent of all
local crashes occurred on
Main St. and there were 169
drivers charged under the
Highway Traffic Act and
another 139 given warnings.
Fifty-four bike riders were
given warnings by the police
department personnel.
Investigations under the
Liquor Control Act also
increased substantially. Out
of 139 occurrences in 1979,
there were 99 males and two
females charged. Only 67
charges had been laid the
year before.
The LLBO issued 142
special occasion permits for
local groups and Chief Day
