Grand Bend Lioness club
held their monthly meeting
Thursday January 24 at the
Green Forest. President,
Helen Elliott, chaired the
meeting. Past Presidents,
Sharon Soldan, Brenda Haist
and Pat Kading were
presented with a plaque with
their names inscribed to
honor their year as
President of the Club. This
plaque will remain at the
Green Forest.
Final plans were discussed
for the Hard Times dance to
be held February 16, at the
Dashwood community
centre at 9:00 p.m. There
will be a disc jockey at the
dance and anyone arriving
before 9:30 p.m. will receive
one free drink. All profits
will go towards the ,Lions
home for deaf in Lobo.

month's raffle gift.
Catholic church news
The Catholic Womens
League held their January
meeting, Tuesday evening,
at. St, John's Parish hall,
with President, Roberta
Walker presiding. Angie
Stokkermans read the
minutes and Karen
Smeekens gave the
treasurer report.
Jenny Masse spoke of the
difference of family life now
and in Jesus time Roberta
read scripture passages,
During the business it was
decided that a $50.00
donation go to the St. John
Fisher school in Forest for
funding a Quebec student
exchange program. A fruit
basket will be sent to Father
Boyer who has been ill.
A family of Boat people,
being sponsored by the
Grand Bend and Forest
Catholic churches, arrived
from Laos on December
13th, and are living in one
house in Thedford. The
family are Mr, and Mrs.
Sengkhounmany and their 5
children, his mother and two
sisters, and his wife's two
nieces, Arrangements are
being made for the adults to
attend English classes in
Forest, and the children will
attend the St. John
Fisher school in Forest.
A welcoine social evening
was held at St. John Fisher
school for the parish to meet
the family. Mr.
Sengkhounmany, speaks
French and some English,
'and he is a pilot. He told
them he had been stranded
two months in Thailand
without his family and
feared all were lost.
The adults are seeking
employment.
The travelling prize was
donated by Angie
Stokkermans and won by
Roberta Walker.
Next meeting will be
Tuesday evening at St.
John's Parish hall, February
19 at 8:00 p.m.
Beavers
There will be an
organization and in-
formation meeting regar-
ding Beavers (for boys under
Cub age) Thursday January
31, at 8:00 at the Grand Bend
church. All interested
persons welcome.
Church of God news
Friday evening, ten young
folks and their leaders met
at the Public school for
recreation games, and then
had lunch in the S.S. rooms
of the Church of God.
Thirty young adults and
children from Church of God
enjoyed bowling in Zurich on
Saturday evening.
The next meeting of the
Beaconaires club (60 years
and over) will be held
Monday evening February
4th, with a carry in supper at
6:00 p.m.
Slides on Newfoundland
will be featured en-
tertainment for the evening,

The Pinery Park detach-
ment of the ' Ontario
Provincial Police had a very
quiet week between January
20 and 26. Only two charges
were laid under the liquor
licence act. One theft was
investigated and one charge
was laid under the highway
traffic act. • Rev. H. Moore's sermon
topic was based on scripture
from the second chapter of
Luke: verses 22-34.
The lovely choir anthems
today were "Praise the
Lord" and "Let all the world
in every corner sing."

campaign will be from
January 28 to February 9th,
and the Lioness Club ladies
will be out canvassing during
