meeting and all of them an
extra $300 for the year 'to
cover the special meetings of

they must attend while on
council business.
Diane Durnin, manager of
the Vanastra recreation
centre received a 10 percent
increase in salary raising
her's to $14,256 from $12,960.
Other staff at the centre will
have their salaries reviewed
and set under the direction of
:Mrs, Durnin at the next
council session.

of Vanastra ,day care centre
was given a 10 percent in-
crease bringing her salary
up from, $11,051,64 to
$12 ,156 .80 ; Debbie
Denomme, assistant
director, from $8,640 to

Virginia Gill, will receive 40
cents increase in wages per

$3.85 per hour.
Mark Bell, London, of the
Ministry of Environment,
presented the operating
budget for the water and
sewage works at Vanastra,
The ministry manages the
system for the township
which will review the budget
and approve or reject it at
the next council session
February 5.
The water budget was
$41,800 and sewage, $40,200
for a total of $82,000, "which
may be a little on the lean
side" remarked Mr. Bell.
The township has a
reserve account amounting
to $76,000, for the system
which was established when
Vanastra was taken over by
the township from the
developer. Mr. Bell proposed
taking $18,000 out of reserve
account as follows: Sewer
infiltrationrepairs estimated
to cost $5,000; relocating
three hydrants in the water
distribution estimated to
cost $5,000 and authorizing
the preparing of a design
report on the works and
upgrading it at a cost of
$8,000.
Chaplain Service. Following
the war he was named
Chaplain to the University of
Guelph. Retiring to Elora
later where he resided until
ill health made it necessary
to enter Inglebrook Nursing
at Fergus.

In spite of thh inclement
weather on Wednesday
evening the euchre held in
the local 100F hall was fairly
well attended with mostly
country folk attending. Mr.
Eric Mansfield directed the

Native of Hensall passes
'Mrs. Florence Edna
(Wolfe) Hohner of London
died on Monday January 21st
in her 68th year. She was a
daughter of the late Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Wolfe of
Hensall. Besides a large
family she is survived by
sisters: Olive, Mrs. George
Molt, Hensall, May. St.
Catharines, Myrtle,
Seaforth, Edith, Brucefield,
Helen and Shirley, London.
Funeral service was held
from • the Needham
Memorial Chapel, London,
Thursday January 24th.
Interment in Mt. Pleasant
Cemetery.

The budget is up 10 percent
on the average over last year
- 18 percent in the water
system but three percent for
sewage. Salary increases of
eight percent, hydro in-
crease of 15 percent help to
bring about the increased,
budget.
Included in the increase to
the water system is $4,000
allotted for valve
replacement and packing of
old lead joints, services,
supplies and equipment.
In discussions on the
general operations of the
plant, Mr, Bell said he un-
derstood that some people
are not happy about how the
plant is operated. Reeve
Ervin Sillery replied,
"Maybe not too happy but
concerned that it could be
operated on a cheaper
basis."
Mr„ Bell outlined how he
township benefits from
having the Ministry of the
Environment run it. He said
the ministry pays a higher
salary than most in the area,
and administration and
engineering services are
provided by the ministry.
Monitoring of the system is
done by the ministry which
also provides many other
services. ,
'Council will investigate
other avenues open to them'
such as drilling their own
well, asking another
municipality such as Clinton
to manage the system along
with its own.

The, Ministry of Tran-
sportation and Com-
munications has announced
the 1980 road subsidy
allocation for Tuckersmith
will be $61,500 for con-
struction and $94,500 for
maintenance which is up
slightly over last year.
Council will send a
congratulatory message to
Lloyd Eisler, of Egmondville
Jr, for his successful com-
petition in figure skating at
Kitchener over the weekend.

Saturday, January 19th.
Funeral service was held
from St. Andrew's
Presbyterian Church,
Fergus on Tuesday, in-

Dr. Young was a graduate
of Guelph Agricultural
College, later entering the
ministry, graduating from
Knox Presbyterian College
Toronto in 1930. He was
minister of Carmel
Presbyterian, Hensall from
1932 to 1939, moving to
Fergus he was minister of St.
Andrew's Church prior to
enlisting in the,second world
war when he served in the
