The locals took a 4-2 win over Oakridge in a Shamrock tilt at the rec centre, Wednesday, and then finished their play in the Clinton tournament with a 4- 1 win over the host team, Friday. Exeter jumped into a 3-0 lead against Oakridge, but needed an insurance tally into an open net in the final seconds to preserve the win. John Kernick blinked the light three times for the locals, while Doug Scott added the single. Assists were picked up by Ted Oke, Brian Blackburn, Dave Hayter, Scott Brintnell and Darren Vandergunst. The locals spotted Clinton I a 1-0 lead in their tour- nament contest and then came back with four straight to grab the win. John Kernick scored a pair and added an assist, with the singles going to Scott rtrintnell and Mike Tiedeman. Brintnell also had an assist. Waxers come close The Exeter Waxers were beaten on the score sheet, but still managed a moral victory when they hosted Lambeth in Shamrock novice play at the rec centre, Sunday. The last time the teams met,. Lambeth posted an 11-2 win, but this week the locals held them to a 4-2 margin and were in the contest until the final seconds when the visitors netted a pair to break a 2-2 tie. With Lambeth leading 2-0 The Exeter Mohawks scored two decisive victories this week in the South Huron intermediate hockey league, Thursday, the Mohawks .doubled the score on the Kettle Point Warriors in Exeter and Friday they trounced the Grand Bend Mariners 11-3 at the Stephen township arena, Five unanswered goals in the second period allowed the Mohawks to score their win over Kettle Point. late in the second, Doug Clark potted a pair on one shift to even the count. He battled from behind the net to get the first tally and then won a faceoff seconds later in the Lambeth zone to get the equalizer on another dogged effort. However, with less than five minutes left on the clock, Lambeth's high scoring Al Shiplet broke loose for a pair of goals to pull the game out of reach of Each team scored two goals in the first• period., Barry Baynham scored on an unassisted effort and Tom Ryan hit on passes from Bill Van Bergen and Allan Knight for Exeter. Bill Van Bergen and Jeff Fuller each fired two suc- cessful shots to take care of the Mohawks middle frame scoring. Barry Baynham and Scott Burton gathered two assists each and Tom Ryan, Randy Gilfillan, Jim Barnes and Allan Knight helped on one goal each. The Exeter scoring was completed in the third period when Jim Guenther com- pleted a three-way effort with Bryon Penhale and Brad Taylor. Bill George and Mark Bressette each scored two goals for Kettle Point. In beating Grand Bend the Mohawks scored the first four and the last five goals of the game for a good start and finish. Jim Guenther, Brad Daters, Brian Taylor and Bill VanBergen counted for the Mohawks in the first period and early in the second. Bryon Penhale and Barry Baynham each drew two assists. Helping on one goal apiece were Jim Guenther, Ron Moore and goalie Jeff Davis. Steve Kadlecik hit for two Grand Bend goals in the second session with Steve Schroeder, Dan Stanlake and Tod Sherk assisting. Randy Gilfillan chalked up the fifth Exeter score late in the second period with assists going to Jim Guen- ther and Barry Baynham. Steve Kadleick with his hat trick completion ended the Grand Bend scoring in the final period. Assisting were Peter Gill and Steve Schroeder. Bryon Penhale and cap- tain Bill Van 'Bergen each scored two third period goals for the Mohawks. Getting singles were Brad Taylor and Jeff Fuller. Alan Blommaert and Laurie Chalmers picked up assists on Clark's first goal for the Waxers, who have yet to win in Shamrock league play this season. They have two ties. Pee wees win The Exeter pee wees spotted Oakridge an early lead at the rec centre, Wednesday, but then roared back to take a 7-1 triumph to solidify their hold on third place in the loop. Scott Lovie and Jeff Pfaff paced the attack with a pair of markers each, while singles were fired home by Trevor Johnston, Steve Gould and Allan Pym. George Pratt 'and Sean Whiteford picked up a pair of assists each and singles were recorded by Pym, Pfaff, Gould, Johnston and A. Lerikos. Atoms take squeacier Playing in Oakridge, Tuesday, the local atoms scored three in a row in the last half of the game to take a 4-3 win, Jon O'Connor,s Ron Loucks, Paul Mellecke and Dave Russell scored in single fashion for the win- ners. Bryan Quinn assisted on a pair of the markers and singles went to Danny McLean, Loucks and O'Connor. Mariners get draw The Grand Bend Mariners and Thedford Browns played to a 7-7 tie in South Huron Hockey league play Sunday in Thedford. The -next action for the Mariners will be Sunday when they travel to Kettle Point. The game was close from start to finish with a 2-2 score at the end of the first period and 4-4 at the end of 40 minutes of play. In the first period, Pete Gil converted a pass from Joe Falsetti and Mike Desjar- dine scored on a pass from Rick Moody for Grand Bend. Both Grand Bend goals in the middle period were counted by Rick Moody and each came on an unassisted effort. Tod Sherk scored twice for the Mariners in the third period and Pete Gil chalked up his second goal of the game. Pete Gil and Scott Green assisted. Ron Harper and Dale Quinn each scored two goals for Thedford. scoring in single fashion were Dave Sharpe, Norm Gratton and Dale Elliott.
