The President Bertha MacGregor preSided, The secretary Mrs. Ernie Davis called the Roll and read the minutes, The treasurer gave the financial report and presented the bills. The Club has become a star club• and cards were received, and will be distributed. The members are invited by the Kippen East Institute to a dinner in the. Legion Hall on Wed- nesday January 16th at 12 o'clock The Annual Spring Rally of Zone 8 will be held in the Hensall United Church on April 30th, Progressive euchre was played also a table of crokinole. Mr. Harvey Keyes who has :been a patient in University Hospital, London for the past number of weeks returned to his home last week. Unit IV of Hensall United Church meets The January meeting of Unit' IV of the U.C.W, Hensall United Church was held Thursday January 10th in the Fellowship Hall. Fourteen members and one visitor answered the Roll Call. The Leader Mrs. Nan Britton opened the meeting with the poem "New Year's Wish" Hymn 571 was sung with -Mrs. Dhrothy Mickle pianist. ' The dovotional was given by Mrs.,Susan Purdy. Nine members from' Unit 1 joined us from their metingt upstairs for the Study eriOd when Mrs. Helen Scane from Unit 1 'presented the material to be 'used for the year for our study on Japap. Several, books were shown I and commented on and she .dealt 'with some very in- teresting facts pretaining to Japan and. its people. She spoke of Rob Witmer formerly of Goderich, who went out, to Japan as a missionary a few years ago and later married a Japanese girl. They are happily married and have a daughter and son. The daughter, being born in Japan and the son in' Toronto, her message was very much enjoyed by both units. The business period followed with several im- ,portant items coming up. The members of Unit IV will be visiting the Queen:. sway Nursing Home residents on the Monday afternoons in January. The Annual Congregational meeting and Pot Luck supper being held January 16th at 6:30 p.m. The Huron-Perth Presbyterial to be held in Goderich January 28th and a special bus is being booked to take members from the area. The World's Day of Prayer is March 7th in Hensall United Church. The minutes of the previous were read and adopted and the roll call taken. Thirty-six visits were made to the sick' and Shut-ins during the last month. Mrs. Myrtle Sherritt gave the treasurer's report and also stated that all the church calendars for the group had been sold. Mrs. -Purdy received the offering which was dedicated by Mrs. Britton. Mrs. Mary Roobol volunteered to be card convener for the group. The meeting closed with Hymn 298 followed by prayer. Mrs. Mabel Parke, Mrs. Gladys Coleman and Mrs. Shirley Luther were the social committee. Unit 1 meets Mrs. AudreyJoynt presided for the January meeting of Unit 1 of U.C.W. of Hensall United Church, after repeating the U.C.W. purpose in unison Mrs. Joynt read' a poem "Man's ex- terminator is God's op- portnnities". Talents was the „theme Mrs. Joynt used for her message. We all have some special talents and these differ with each person. Mrs. Helen Scane gave a very intetestineintroduction of our Study'on Japan. She named several mission magazines available while studying Japan. Mrs. Scane explained the very interesting mythology of Japan. ti Mrs. Scane then read, a very interesting article about Rob and Keiko Wit- mernow of Toronto, where Rob is completing his studies in theology and then they will again return to Japan. Rob went as a missionary from the United Church to teach English in a small Japanese village ten years ago. Business was as follows: Unit 1 to place flowers fcr January. Annual Pot Luck Supper Wednesday January 16 at 6:30 the unit to wash dishes. Huron-Perth Presbyterial of Goderich January 28th Mr. and Mrs. Witmer and Maureen Mayne to be guest speakers. There is bus service for the day. Members are asked to ad- vise Mrs. Joynt by January 18th. Dates of the year meetings were given by Mrs. Joynt, the Presbytery meeting in Hensall United Church February 26th. Unit 1 to serve dinner at noon. HONOR BANKER Mr. Eric Luther Manager of the Bank of Montreal and staff entertained Mr. Tom Kelly Administration Manager who has been transferred to the Clinton Branch, to dinner last week and presented him with a gift. The President Mrs. Harvey Hyde prided for the January Meeting of the W.M,S. of Carmel Presbyterian Church and opened the meeting with a poem "A New Year's Resolution". The worship was taken by Mrs. Bertha MacGregor who read a poem "Not Knowing". The topic of the Devotional was "The New Year" given by Bertha MacGregor, Mrs. Hyde welcomed everyone present and read a passage "Love Thy Neighbour" followed by prayer. Mrs. R. Faber read the minutes followed by the Roll Call. A notice was read from the Bible Society "A Bible A Month Club" The annual Huron Presbyterial will be held on January 23rd at 1:30 p.m. at Goderich. Mrs. Hyde read an item "Character" and the benediction was repeated in unison. Ladies Aid Mrs. Al Hoggarth President opened the Ladies' Aid meeting with a poem "Build a Bridge" followed by a reading "Be a Good Forgetter", and Prayer. Mrs. Ruby Bell ass' t Secretary read in the absence of the Secretary Mrs. Edith Bell. The Treasurer's report was given by Mrs. Hyde, Mrs. Volland gave an account of treats and boies sent at Christmas. The kitchen committee will choose the curtains for the kitchen and purchase any supplies needed, It was decided to have a pot luck supper prior to the congregational on January 24 at 6:30 p.m. The Choir plan a crokinole party for St. Valentine's February 15. The President and group leaders are to make Menus and prices for weddings. It was suggested a first aid box be placed in the kitchen. Following the offering Mrs. Hoggarth led in prayer followed by the Benediction. Congregation to have pot luck supper Rev. Kenneth Knight conducted service in Carmel Presbyterian Church on Sunday delivering an in- spiring message on a "Decade to Double". Mrs. Robt. Taylor presided at the organ. The U.C.W. of Chiselhurst United Church met on Tuesday for their first meeting of the New Year with the president Mrs. J. Brintnoll presiding and opened the meeting with the theme song and prayer Mrs. Fredo Boa conducted the worship, service. The Theme she used was The Changing Year. Mrs. Dorothy Brint- nell, Mrs. Ted Roberts, and Mrs. Alvin Cole assisted Mrs. Boa. The Roll call was an- swered by the members telling of a Christmas gift they received. Thank you notes were received from Mrs. Ethel Drover and Beatrice and Mrs. Carl McDonald. An invitation was received for members to attend the general meetings held at the -Hensall Unit Church throughout the coming year. Mrs. Grace Pym, Elimville spoke about the new Officer meetings for the U.C.W. groups. She was thanked and presented with a gift by the president. The Treasurer gave a report and read the budget for 1980. It' was announced the Huron- Perth Presbyterial is being held in Goderich United Church on January 28th, Mrs. Brintnell read a poem on "A Happy Year", Secret pal names were drawn and refreshments were' served World's Day of Prayer service March 7th in United Church.
