Like many of you, the
other day I received a
seasons greeting letter from
our member of federal
parliament which read in
part, "much has happened in
recent times to make us
wonder and worry about our
future. Yet we remain for-
tunate in Canada that we can
govern ourselves and choose
our goals for ourselves,
using our energies and the
habits we have learned from
our heritage to build a secure
and happy future."

the township council.
The current rate is one per

William Amos said. The new
just doesn't know what is
going on around him. I
beleive he has been in
Ottawa too long and has
forgotten the realities in his
own Riding.
Right here in Vanastra and
Tuckersmith Township we
have a dictatorship com-
prised of "Big Wheel Fifth
Wheels" who are holding a
gun on Vanastra and do not
hesitate to pullthe triggerany
time they wish, The wishes
of the people carries no
weight what so ever, this is
freedom?
One of the best councillors
a member from Egmond-
ville in my opinion is being
chastized for the position he
took on the proposed additon,
which the people didn't want,
but council pulled the trigger
anyway on the people of
Vanastra and the member
from Egmondville. This is
democracy? Habits we have
learned from our heritage,
we have learned to,be bottom
kissers and only the bottom
kissers live the good life and
have happy future. Look
around you, the people who
are living the good life, are
likely the bottom kissers. If

The Christmas meeting of
the U.C.W. Evening unit was
held December 3, in ladies
parlour with Mrs. Joanne
Wareham's group in charge.
All the ladies were greeted
at the door with a glass of
warm punch, and given a
sprig of evergreen name
tag.
Mrs. Vera Armstrong
presided for the business
welcoming everyone and
reading "Are You Wishing to
Believe." Mingtes of last
meeting and treasurers
report were read.
Mrs. Verlyn Lindenfield
reported for Ways and
Means on the events they
had looked after making for
a very busy year. The new
revised sheets with the 1980
executive and groups were
handed out to everyone.
Mrs. Joanne Wareham's
group presided for the
Worship, the theme The
Child We Honor, Mrs. Ada
Dinney accompanied on
piano by Mrs. Elaine Skinner
led everyone in a sing song
with many Christmas
favourites. A Merry
Christmas, Jingle Bells, God
Bless all, Hark the Herald
Angels Sing were just a few
sung.
Mrs. Marion Dearing read
from the Bible the Christmas
Story then presented to the
ladies the Chrismons or
Christ Monograms. Each
symbol was explained then
hung on a special tree. This
tree with the Chrismons will
bids for the supply of a
backhoe attachment to the
township tractor and two
tenders for a sander at-
tachment for a truck. The
submissions will be given
further study before council
decides on the successful
suppliers, Mr. Amos said.
With the start of a new
municipal year, MCGillivray
representatives have been
returned to various boards:
North West Middlesex
Planning Board - Reeve
Gerald Wright, Jack Dor-
man and Charles Corbett;
North Middlesex Community
Centre Board - Diane
Mollard and Jack McCann;
Lucan Community Centre
Board - Allan Hill; Ausable-
Bayfield Conservation
Authority - Bill Amos.

to 15 per cent per annum.
Unpaid taxes reduce the
amount of operating
revenue for municipalities
and sometimes force short-
term borrowing which is
expensive under current
high bank interest con-
ditions, Mr. Amos said.
McGillivray Council has
decided it can once again
absorb another increase in
the wholesale price of water
from the Lake Huron
pipeline. The Ontario
Ministry of Environment is
charging an extra 1.8 cents
per thousand gallons, but the
general rates to users will
remain at 60 cents per
thousand gallons,
The general rate in
McGillivray was raised by 10
cents "a few years ago" and
wholesale hikes have been
absorbed since then, Mr.
Amos said.

Your police department wish for you a Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New
Year. May we remind you again that alcohol and gasoline do not mix.
Remember the festive season is fast approaching and at this time of year don't
forget your family. If you have too much to drink, DON'T DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE.
Call a taxi or ask someone for assistance. With the new laws in regards to the
Breathalizer tests, drinking and driving can become very costly and a punishment
such as a jail term and the loss of your licence can be imposed. BE MUCH WISER
— DON'T GET CAUGHT BY THE BREATHAUZER.
