Stephen arena set for opening By LYNNE FARQUHAR The Stephen Township arena will 'be having its Official Opening on Sunday December 16. The activity starts with a broomball game at 6 p.m. for all ages (bring a broom) Opening ceremonies are slated for 7 p.m. and free public skating goes from 7.15-8.30 p.m. At 8.30, you won't Want to miss the "Challenge Cup" hockey game with Stephen East taking on Stephen West. Rumour has it that "special referees" will be on hand to officiate the contest. Don't miss it!! The Stephen arena is of- fering power skating for youngsters who want to brush up on their skating skills. The session started December 10 and includes 15 hours of on-ice instruction. The fee is set at $15. For information call Frank Funston at 228-6425. Anyone interested in used paperback books should drop by the Resource Centre and pick some up. The books are free of charge and are here for the taking. If you know anyone who is bedridden and would enjoy some reading material, let us know and we'll drop them off some books. Stephen Nursery School youngsters will be having their Christmas parties on December 20 for the Tuesday and Thursday group and December 21 for the others. Santa Claus himself is ex- pected to drop by with some surprises for the pre- schoolers. All skaters in the Stephen Township figure skating club should take note that there will be no skating lessons December 22 and 29 over the holidays. Skating will resume January 5. The Opti-Mrs. are still gathering donations for their Christmas baskets for needy families. Youth meet The Youth of Zion Lutheran church held their meeting at the home of Howard Datars Judith Mellecke opened with prayer and Sandra Datars led in Bible study, Recreation was watching the beginning of "The Sound of Music." Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Rader visited in Ailsa Craig, Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Wellwood Gill at Craigweil Gardens. Mrs. Reinhold Miller is a patient in South Huron Hospital.' Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Miller have returned home following a 10 day vacation in Amsterdam, Holland with their two daughters. Dianne and Vickie while there they attended the "Holiday onice" show many times and also took bus tours of Holland and a train trip to Germany. Dianne and Vickie will be returning from Holland sometime this week for the Christmas Holidays.
