Some 30 ladies gathered in
the church basement for the
Christmas meeting of the
United Church Women. The
meeting opened with a
candle-lighting ceremony
with Mrs. Jack Stewart as
the leader reader.
The candle lighters and
readers were Mrs. John
Pym, Mrs. Bill Rohde, Mrs,
Donald Bray, Mrs. David
Passmore and Mrs. Murray
Dawson, A reading
Christmas Comes at Dif-
ferent Times was read by
Mrs. Pym .
The offering was received
by Mrs. Pym and Mrs. Roh-
de and prayer by Mrs. Jack
Stewart and closing verse
The Joy of Little Things by
Mrs. Pym.
Mrs. Pym gave a
demonstration on gift
wrapping which was very
well done. Mrs. Stewart
thanked Mrs. Pym.
Mrs, Rohde opened the
business part of the meeting
with a verse "Christmas
Blessing."
The usual business was
dealt with . It was decided to
give a donation to the
Walden family at Huron
Park and also to Alma
College. It was decided to get
new drapes for the Sunday
School room.
Mrs. Rohde thanked
everyone for their support
and co-operation for the past
two years and wished the
best for the new president
Mrs. Murray Dawson.
Mrs. Rohde closed the
meeting with a Christmas
prayer. A delicious lunch
was served by group U and
the hostess Mrs. Barry E.
Miller.
White gift service
The Sunday School was in
charge of the annual White
Gift service which was held
Sunday morning. Pastor
Ross Hargreaves lit the
purple candle last Sunday
for royalty and expectation
and this Sunday he lit the
green candle for hope for the
World.
"A Festival of Lights" was
the theme for the service
which was led by the
secretary-treasurer Miss
Joyce Cunnington. She was
assisted by Steven Pym,
Gerald Cunnington, David
Cunnington, Alan Hodgert,
Scott Hodgert, Pat Hodgert,
Jeff Borland, Dennis Pym,
Brent Dawson, Julie
Lamport, Cheryl Stewart,
Michael Stewart and Paul
Stewart.
Scripture readers were
Barry Cunnington and Brad
Borland. Everyone took
their offering to the front of
the church and put•it in the
offering plates.
Two new banners, one
adorned the pulpit entitled
"Gifts of God" a trumpet for
joy, a loaf of bread for life
and a candle for hope, the
other one was hung on the
wall. The World Awaits a
Gift You. The Christmas
decorations and the
decorated tree adorned the
front of the church..
Pastor Ross Hargreaves
dedicated new Bibles which
were donated by the Sunday
School and were given to the
members of the Young
Peoples class, Intermediate
class and the Junior class.
Robt, Hume Superintendent
and David Cunnington
assistant Superintendent
presented the Bibles.
Personals
Mr. and Mrs. Ross
Hargreaves attended a
Christmas cantata at
Crumlin United Church
Thursday evening. The
choirs were from, theree
different churches, Crumlin,
Dorchester and Siloam.
Their daughter Mrs. Roslyn
Hansford was in the choir.
Mr. and Mrs. William Roh-
de were Friday evening
supper guests with Mr. and
Mrs. Russell Morley of
Exeter and Sunday supper
guests with Mr. and Mrs.
Alex Rohde of Mitchell.
Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Jef-
fery and Connie were Sunday
guests of Mrs. Hazel Jeffery,
Exeter. The occasion being
the latter's birthday.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Duncan
spent the weekend with Mr.
and Mrs. Dennis Duncan of
Ottawa.
