UCW's, Court Valen tine hold Christmas meetings By MRS. L SUMMERS Mrs. Elwood Morden was the hostess for Unit 1 at the Manse, on Wednesday af- ternoon for their Christmas meeting. Mrs. G. McRobert presided and opened with a Christmas hymn, The roll call was answered by an inspirational verse or reading. Everyone took part in the program which in- cluded Christmas stories, poems, and readings.. .A skit entitled "The Time of the. Stranger "wasput on by Rev. Elwood Morden, Mrs. By ADA DINNEY I woke up this morning, very early and could not get the thoughts of the Christ- mas Pageant at our church, out of my mind. I don't know whether it was the songs that kept running through my head like - "As Joseph was a sleeping,, he heard an angel say." or - "The March of the Three Kings" - heralded in by the organ music. I could picture them marching through the church with their torch bearers and page boys, swinging real incense. Maybe it was the sneak peak I had at the costumes all pressed and elegant, hanging in the c'hoir room yesterday morning. Maybe it was the shepherd staffs, from real branches, or the manger, that was filled with straw, or the bonfire, put together for the shepherds to warm their hands on. Maybe it was the scenery, back drops, that still need a lot of work on and there is only one week left to do it - Most of all, I wondered how many people will be. out to see this age old Christmas stbry told in song and dialogue, with a real baby in the manger, real sheep on stage. A little of the real meaning of Christmas, why we have these holidays. Maybe your parents and- grandparentS have something else to do but Ifeel it is something your program for the Christmas Unit 4 met at the United Church on December 5. Church news At the United church Rev. Elwood Morden was in charge of the worship for the second Sunday in Advent, and took the theme for his sermon from John 6:16 and entitled it "The Way to Christmas". Christmas is a way, open to each one of us, said Rev. Morden. When Jesus was born a great light was lit, and it Still exists today, Christmas is a way of joy, understanding, and the spirit of a little child. Our gifts this season must savor of sacrifice, or they are meaningless. A special White Gift service was observed, with the theme "A Festival of Lights." This included a presentation involving the whole Sunday School, en- titled "Sharing the Gifts of God," Kenneth McGuffin performed the ceremony of lighting the second candle in the Advent wreath, devoting peace. Mrs. Gordon McRobert's class presented a skit en- titled "Where Love Is" this involved quite young children, and they are_to be complimented, they knew their lines, and need very little prompting, credit goes to the teachers for both of these presentations, for their, time and patience. At the close of the service, a very young Mary and Joseph walked up the aisle carrying a Baby Jesus. Altogether this was a very impressive service. • GIFT CERTIFICATES AVAILABLE • FREE GIFT WRAPPING The C.G,I,T, will present their annual Vesper Service in the United Church December. 16 at 7:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to share in this inspiring service.
