McKinley citizenship trophy
for 4-H home and community
projects.
Paul Who farms with his
father, Joseph, on a swine
and cash crop farm, has
completed 24 projects, such
as swine, grain crops,
tractor, veterinary science,
snowmobile and farm safety.
He is an active member of
the Huron County 4-H youth
council, president of South
Huron Junior Farmers and
vice-president of the Huron
County Junior Farmers.
Last year he attended a
provincial 4-H leadership
conference where he was
chosen this year to attend, as
Ontario representative, an
interprovincial exchange
with New Brunswick.
Calvin Willard, RR 1,
Centralia, was awarded the
trophy for the highest score
in the county, 983 points out
of a possible 1,000, and the
Vincent Farm Equipment
trophy for being top tractor
club member,
The Huron County war-
den's award for highest first-
year member score went to
Mary Gibson, RR 5, Clinton,
who also won the highest
beef club score for a fir4
year member.
Len MacGregor, extension
assistant for Huron County,
ministry of agriculture and
food, reported the members
of the county's 30 4-H clubs
received $1,250 in prize
money, certificates, pins and
plaques at Friday's
achievement night. He said
350 members took part in 542
projects with 93,3 per cent
completion,
Mr. MacGregor com-
mented that with the
training the young people get
in 4-H, it leads them to take
leadership roles in their
community and helps to
maintain the rural at-
mosphere in Huron.

County 4-H field crop clubs in 1979 was Allan Powe, RR 2,
Centralia. The prize was presented at Friday's Achievement
night by Hu'ron Soil and Crop association president Don
Rader.

win pair
The Centralia Marauders
scored two victories this
week in South Huron in-
termediate hockey league
action. Thursday they
trounced the Thedford
• Browns 12-3 and Monday it
was a 9-3-win over the Grand
Bend Mariners,
The Marauders will be in
action tomorrow night,
Thursday at the Huron Park
arena when they play host to
the Centralia College Saints.
The Marauders started out
strong in Monday's decision
over Grand Bend with a 6-1
lead at the end of the first 20
minutes of play.
Dennis Carty, Blair Hearn
and Ron Funston each
scored two goals to lead the
first period barrage. Hugh
Wilson, Dennis Carty and
Rob Funston each chalked
pp two assists while single
passing help was provided
by Cec Nickles, Blair Hearn,
Matt Muller and Bill Hodge.
The lone first session
marker for Grand Bend was
fired by Bob Lovie on a pass'
from Steve Kadlecik.
Each team scored a power
play goal fn the. second
period. Dennis Carty
counted his third goal for
Centralia on a three-way
effort with Cec Nickles and
Perry Knee while Rick
Moody replied for the
Mariners with -the assists
going to Tom Richardson
and Todd Sherk,
In the third frame, Blair
Hearn and Dennis Carty
scored for the :Marauders
and captain Tom Richardson
shot the final Grand Bend
tally.
The Centralia-Thedford
game Thursday was close
for the first half. Each team
scored a goal in the first
period.
Hugh Wilson connected for
the Marauders in the, first
period on a pass from Randy
Somerville and Dave Sharp
replied for Thedford.
Centralia took a 3-1 lead in
the first seven minutes of the
second period on successful
shots by Dennis Carty and
captain Ron Funston. Assists
went to Pete Wuerth, Cec
Nickles and Dick Lord,
The next two Centralia
scores were identical with
Randy Somerville hitting the
mark on a pass from Pete
Glover. Before the middle
stanza. ended Dennis Carty
converted a pass from Perry
Knee. Dave Sharp shot the
second Thedford. goal.
The Marauders broke the
game wide open in the third
period with six goals while
the opposition could only get
one reply.
Pete Glover scored twice.
One score was unassisted
and the other on an assist
from Randy Somerville,
The other Marauders
goals came from the sticks of
Cec Nickles, Blair Hearn,
Randy Somerville and Ron
Funston. Assists went to
Perry Knee, Dennis Carty,
Bill Hodge, Cec Nickles and
Hugh Wilson.
