RENA CALDWELL KIPPEN Kippen East Womens' Institute celebrated their 45th anniversary In Brucefield United Church Thursday with about 140 guests from all the branches of South Huron District Wornens' Institute. Celebration began with dinner at 6:30 p.m. Mrs. Dave Triekiner, president chaired the program and had the assistance of the first president of Kippen East, Mrs. Stirling graham, Cromarty, in cutting the cake. The program consisted of a contest conducted by Mrs. Vern Alderdice, sing songs with accompaniment by Mrs. Ross Broadfoot, musical numbers by the VanWieren sisters-Carol Ann, Audrey and Teresa. A fashion show with Mrs. Wm. Bell as commentator was presented. Those taking part were Mrs. Al Hoggarth, Mrs. Alex McGregor, Mrs. Stewart Pepper, Mrs. Jim Chalmers, U.C.W. meets U.C.W. of St. Andrews Church Kippen met November 6. Mrs. Keith Lovell gave the worship taken from "The Prodigal Son" Mrs. D.E. Kyle chaired the meeting and read "Lest We Forget" Mrs. Orville Workman gave the topic on the History of Kippen. During the business, plans for the fowl supper November 14 in Brucefield church were finalized, It was decided to send $30 to compassion 'to help with clothing for a child at Christmas. Mrs, G. Moffat favoured with piano solos, Mrs. Edison MacLean brought in the slate of of- ficers for 1980. Past president-Mrs. D.E. On Sattirday, December the 8 Ailsa Craig volunteer firemen will escort Santa himself into town for a brief appearance in the village's annual Santa Claus parade. The parade will begin its traditional route at 1 pm.. along Main St. led this year by a 50 member marching band from London. The Imperial Drum and Bugle Corps of London is made up of young people from 8 to 18 years of age and is well known throughout the area, It is hoped the band will be one of the major attractions for this year's spectators. Mrs. Ray Consitt and Mrs. Bert Faber served lunch. Personals John Anderson is a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital, London, Kippen East Womens' Institute will meet at the home of Mrs. Jack Sinclair in Seaforth November 21. A home economist will be the guest speaker. Mrs, Grant MacLean will give the motto. Mrs. Robert Kinsman is in charge of lunch, members are asked to remember to bring a record or a game for the nursing home. — Mrs. Grant McGregor underwent surgery on her arm in University Hospital last week, Jack Coleman, Lyle and Bill Kinsman showed calves in the Queen's Guineas Class. Allin Tremeer, Bill Bell, Emerson Anderson, Camp- bell Eyre, have been on a hunting trip in the north. Mr. and Mrs. Ellison Whiting and David, Parkhill visited with Mr. and Mrs Harold Jones Sunday. Mrs. Kern Alderdice, Mrs. Ernest Whitehouse, Mrs, Jim Drummond, Mrs. Harry Caldwell, Mrs. Grant MacLean, Mrs, Harold Parsons, "Reminiscences" were ptesented by Mrs. Caldwell. Susie Zielman was hostess at her home here, Friday evening, when a number of friends and neighbours gathered for a demon- stration party, showing plants growing in baked clay rocks, called Hydroculture Luwasa. Sylvia Neeb, of Zurich was the demon- strator. It proved most in- teresting. Tony and Michael Massie spent Saturday night with their friends Dean and Lee Watts. Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Wray Sweitzer were Mr. and Mrs. Don Wilson, Sandra, Warren and Perry, Lakeside, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Brintnell, Terry and Scott, Mrs. Bill Rundle and Larry, and Mrs. Jack Smith, all of Wooham, Ron Sweitterkv,and family, 'of Stratford, Barb ,and Don Dundas and family of Crediton. The occasion was a surprise wedding an- niversary dinner for Barb and Don. Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Shapton, of Exeter, visited recently with Laura and Oscar Miller. Mr. and Mrs. Ken. Baker Sr. and Garry, Nancy Baker, Kitchener, Donna Baker Sarnia, Mr. and Mrs. Don Baker and Jamie, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Baker, Jr. and family of Stratford, spent the weekend in Detroit, and attended the christening of the Baker Sr's seventh grandchild. At that time Jillian Nancy daughter of Sandra and Tony Regier was baptized. Godparents were Donna Baker and Dave Durand. Donald Russell and a group of friends have returned from a deer hunting trip up north ' and they brought back several deer.
