Members of Grand Bend Legion and the Cub pack of the Boy Scouts of Canada attended the morning ser- vice at the United Church, with their flags at the altar. Rev. H. Moore was assisted in the service by Session member Elizabeth,. Adams. The sermon topic was on a Remembrance day theme, of soldiers who served in the World Wars and heroes in history. The choir sang an in- spiring anthem "Glory Glory Hallelujah." Flowers decorating the church sanctuary this morning were placed in memory of the late Eric Mc]:lroy. The Sunday school children attended the first part of the morning service. Hazel read excerpts from one of Marjorie Holmes books. Miss Holmes is the author of a best selling book,"Ive got to talk to Somebody, God," Articles read were, "The woman I want to be," "A party," "Getting at it" and "Make me a better listener," all on the theme of prayerful The United church women held their November meeting in the S.S. rooms with President Eleanor Durie presiding. Roll Call was answered with a meditation reading from the Upper room booklet. Several items were discussed in the business period. It was decided the group would pack Christmas boxes for shut ins, and to have a pot luck luncheon at 1:00 p,m, for their Christmas meeting. The nominating com- mittee of Elda Adams and Hazel Broad brought in the 1980 slate of officers, as follows: President - Eleanor Durie, past president - Marjorie Mason, assistant president - Irene Kennedy, Corresponding secretary - Eva Bariteau, Recording secretary - Annie Morenz, Treasurer - Geri Wright, Assistant treasurer - Annie Morenz, Assistant secretary - Clara Hamilton, Church in society - Irene Kennedy, World Outreach - Hazel Broad, Christian Develop- ment - Brenda Love, Sixteen answered the roll call with a poem on Remembrance day. Millie Desjardine con- ducted the worship service on a Remembrance day theme. Janet Desjardine gave a mission talk on Forgiven, Forgotten and Freedom. Mrs, Katie Vincent, President, presided for the annual business meeting and election of officers. Lunch hostess was Marian Steckle. Church of God ladies will be hosting the Christmas Ecumenical on December 4th. Last Monday evening, 18 members of the 60 plus club met at the Church of God for a pot luck supper. Officers elected were, President Mrs. Della Simp- son, Vice Pres. Fermon Snyder, secretary treasurer, Mrs. Meta Sinclair. Next meeting is December 10th. Brownie's and Cub scouts attended the morning ser- vice at Church of God, Sunday. A time of silence was observed in memory of war verterans. John Manore laid a wreath on behalf of the province of Ontario, The Mothers were represented by Pat Revelle who was escorted by Bob Hedley as she laid a wreath. The legion was represented by president Bob Chap- delaine. Ken Dawe laid a wreath commemorating the Korean War, Reeve Robert Sharen laid a wreath en behalf of the village of Grand Bend, and Georgie Gallant laid a wreath on behalf of his father, George Gallant who was unable to be present. Representing the cubs was leader Dennis Mathers. Following the Remem- brance Day ceremony, a luncheon was served at the Legion Hall, Those who died in war were remembered Sunday when seven wreaths were laid at the cenotaph at Grand Bend cemetery. The ceremony took place following service at Grand Bend United Church. Legion, members and cubs attended church and paraded to the cenotaph. Rev. Prices Effective Nov. 14 to Nov. 20 SCISCIA Mariners take two wins fo The Grand Bend Mariners scored two victories this week in the South Huron intermediate hockey league. November 2, the Mariners scored a 6-5 victory over the North Middlesex Merchants of Parkhill and a week later they downed the Thedford Browns by an identical 6-5 count. Friday night the Mariners will meet Parkhill in a return match at the Stephen township, arena at Huron Park, Against Parkhill, the Mariners took a 3-1 lead at the,end of the first period,and were never headed. Ken Moody fired two Grand Bend goals in the first five minutes of the game. Mac Richardsbn assisted on both scores and Tom Richardson contributed one pass. The third Grand Bend goal in the first 20 minutes of play came from the stick of Dan Stanlake on an unassisted effort while Don Van Massenmoch replied for Parkhill. The only goal of the second period was notched by Gary McLeod of Parkhill. Tom Richardson increased the Mariners lead to 4-2 at 1:57 of the third period on a three-way combination with Rick Moody and Steve Schroeder. Parkhill came right back with a goal from Tim Poore only to have Steve Batko score for the Mariners on passes from Pete Gill and Pete Gil. Bruce Furtney scored the final two Parkhill goals and Mike Desjardine notched the final GB marker on a play started by Rick Moody and Dan Stanlake. The Mariners also got off to a flying start in their win over Thedford by scoring the first three goals of the game. The game was less than a minute old when Rick Moody converted passes from Mike Desjardine and Tom Richardson to put the Mariners ahead. Another minute later Joe Fusett beat the Thedford goalie on a pass from Pete Gil and before the period was over Mike Deajardine scored with the assist going to Bob Lovie. Rick Moody scored two goals for Grand Bend in the. middle period with assists being provided by Mike Desjardine and Dan Stanlake.
