They advanced to the championship game by defeating Elimville in round one and were defeated by the Exeter Cool Cats in the final game. Hensall girls congratulate the Cool Cats for a well played game and for winning the trophy. The girls would also like to thank their Parents for their en- couragement and help through the season both at home games and as drivers to away games to the um- pires and the score keepers who all did an exceptional job. Thanks also to Kay Gardiner and Karen Dickens who coached all year. Gospel singing opened the usual morning service at Hensall United Church on Sunday led by Rev. Stan. C. McDonald. All the hymns carried out the theme of the cross. Assisting at the piano was Miss Brenda Pepper and soloist for the service was Mrs. Daniel McLeod of Exeter who sang a beautiful solo, "Why me"ord?" accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Cecil Pepper. The children's story was "Courtesy always pays" and the children were advised to be lovable at all times and to all people. The sermon was on, "Darkness comes - but God is with us." The text, "All things work together for good to those who love God" reminded all of the terrible tragedy at Woodstock but just as the stars shine brightest on a dark night so when facing a crisis Christians experience the great light of God's grace strengthening us, Services at Hensall United Church will be held at the • usual hours next Sunday, August 19. The following two weeks, August 26 and Sep- temher 2, the United Church will be closed and everyone is invited to worship at Carmel Presbyterian Church at 11:30 a.m. Honour bride The family of Ross Alexander gathered for a shower at the Alexander homestead to honour Cathy Sim, bride elect of next month. Organizing the shower were Mrs. Iris Payne and Miss Joan Alexander. Contests were enjoyed and gifts were carried to the bride by Jennifer Sim, while Cathy was assisted in opening the gifts by Lorraine Noakes and Elaine Sim. Cathy thanked the guests and lunch was served by hostesses Iris Payne and Joan Alexander. Former missionary calls Visitors with Mrs. Rachael Schwalm and Miss Flora MacDonald, who was celebrating her birthday on Wednesday were Miss Isabel Matherson, Mrs. Irene Rooney, Mrs. Margaret Eadie and Sandy Bissett of Goderich. Also attending from Goderich was Miss Ida White, R.N. who was a missionary in Babra, India from the Presbyterian Church for many years. Mrs. Margaret Coombs of Clinton also called in. Boys bike from. Paris Scott Beaver, 17 and his friend Tracy Davis, 16 bicycled from Paris to Hensel) a distance of 84 miles on Saturday, August 4 to visit Scott's grandmother, Mrs. Edith Bell. The two boys left Paris at 6 a.m. and arrived in Hensall at 4 p.m, This was something they always wanted to do. After the 84 mile ride the boys attended the Parkhill Sugarfest Dance with their parents. The dance was sponsored by the Maple Sugar Company and is the band their aunt Sylvia plays in. Personals Mrs. Mary Roobal spent a few days in Chatham last week visiting with her cousins Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Poole and with her aunt, Mrs. Anthony Van Dyke of St. Atienne, Quebec who was also visiting at the same time, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Scott and fmaily and Mrs. Jim Scott of R.R. 1 Blyth were Sunday dinner guests at the Manse and also attended morning worship at Hensall United Church. Mrs. Carl McDonald has returned home to Atwood after spending two weeks with her son, Rev. Stan C, McDonald Mr. and Mrs. Robert Beaver of Paris ac- companied by Mrs, Edith Bell and Sylvia attended the Fiddler's Contest at Shelborne at the weekend. Mrs. Edgar Munn returned home after spen- ding the weekend with her son-in-law and daughter Mr. and Mrs. Don Gooding and Miss Dale Gooding in Parkhill, Mr. and Mrs. John Jacobs and children who have spent the past several week's visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Dick Peckham and family will return to their home in Windsor, England this week, Mrs. Don Luther, Rachel and Adam of St. John's Newfoundland returned to their home after spending the past week with Mr. and Mrs. Eric Luther. Mr. and Mrs. Elgin Johnston of London visited recently with Mr. and Mrs. Asa Deeves. Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Raeburn left last week to take up residence in Coronation Alberta where Jeff has secured a position on the teaching staff of the school there. We wish them every success in their new home and the West. Mrs. Wanda McClinchey Activity and Craft Director of Queensway Home returned to her duties this week after a pleasant vacation. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Schroeder returned from their honeymoon in Los Vegas and have taken up residence in Elizabeth Court Apartments.
