Original art
on display
in library
A selection of original oil
paintings by Catherine
Junker is currently on
display at Grand Bend
Public Library. Mrs. Junker,
a resident of Southcott Pines,
says some of her works are
for sale, while others she
would like to keep.
Mrs. Junker's works are in
the library representing the
Grand Bend Art Club. The
club is made up of members
from Grand Cove, Southcott
Pines, Beach O'Pines, Dash-
wood and the surrounding
area. They meet Wednesday
nights in the village" hall and
each member works in her
own medium. While many
are oil painters, others work
in water colors and acrylics.
Occasionally they sponsor
workshops in other art forms
such as batik.
Mrs. Junker has been
doing oil paintings since 1965
when she took a course in it.
Some of her works are at-
tractive still lifes, while
others are local scenes. One
winter scene shows damage
along Grand Bend's beach
and pier as a result of a se-
vere ice storm.
Another scene features a
view of the trees in the
Parkhill Conservation Area,
Mrs. Junker says she
sometimes sits out of doors
and works on the paintings.
while other times she works
from a photograph.
She says the Art Club
enjoys the fellowship of
working together. As well,
they learn from one another
in such areas as mixing
colors. "Some weeks we get
lots done, other weeks not as
much," she says.
