The Citizen, 2007-12-20, Page 16PAGE 16. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 20, 2007. Women’s Institute members and guests enjoyed a potluck dinner on Thursday, Dec. 13 at Auburn Memorial Hall. President Erma Cartwright welcomed everyone. Grace was sung and a potluck meal was enjoyed. Following the meal, Laura Mae Chamney played the piano and Marg Siertsema led a sing song of Christmas songs. They were thanked by Mrs. Cartwright. Pastor Dave Wood was guest speaker. He showed slides and told of his trip to El Salvador. Sixteen people had an eye-opening adventure as they travelled to villages such as Las Brisas which was levelled by a major earthquake and land slide. They built five homes while there. The people of El Salvador have little to no possessions but are always happy and take extreme pride in what they do have, he said. Water must be carried to each home. This trip was through World Partners who are seeking to rebuild communities in this area. When this group left for home the tools they used to build the homes were all left with the villagers. A note of interest – another member of this group was Quincy Bridge of Auburn. Congratulations must go out to each and everyone of this group. Marg Fraser presented Pastor Wood with a gift of appreciation. Erma Cartwright thanked him for the presentation. Mrs. Cartwright gave a reading, A Box Full of Kisses. June Robinson had two contests, Name That Christmas Song and Christmas riddles. These were won by Betty Archambault and Dorothy Schneider. There is remodelling to be done in the kitchen of the Hall. The roll call was to bring a friend, sing or pay $1. Friends were introduced, music was enjoyed and money collected. Mrs. Cartwright gave a reading Precious Christmas Memories and Teresa gave a reading, A Heartwarming Story. Selling tickets on the quilt for cancer proved to be very profitable and donation will be sent. The next meeting is Jan. 19. It will be a craft meeting so everyone is asked to bring craft material items. Mrs. Archambault and Mrs. Fraser are in charge. The roll call is to bring something to make favours. Phyllis Durst will be doing flower arranging. Money was donated to the scanner for the hospital in Goderich and to have the piano in the Hall tuned. A gift exchange closed the meeting. Pastor WI speaker Father Time AHoliday Moosical began with none other than Father Time setting up the timeline of the story for the audience at East Wawanosh Public School’s Christmas concert last week. Father Time, played by Jacob Coultes, set the scene, then the rest of the cast took over, telling the story of the moose that eventually learned to fly.
