BLYTH UNITED CHURCH
Greeting at Blyth United Church
on Sunday, Nov. 25 were Barb and
Terry Richmond. Ushering were
Brenda Brooks, Terry Richmond
and Elaine Brown. Guest organist
was Lynda McGregor.
Guest speaker Sandy Morris
welcomed everyone to church with
the Call to Worship repeated
responsively followed by the
opening prayer. The first hymn Lord
Speak to Me, was followed by
reading the New Creed in unison.
The choir anthem was, The Lord
is King. The next hymn, This is
God’s Wondrous World, was
followed by A minute for missions
read by Jon Hakkers.
Sandy’s message to the children
was Happy Old Year. She asked the
children if they knew that this was
the last Sunday of the year C in the
church and that Next Sunday was
the start of the new year, A. She
taught the children to blow through
their hands to make a noise like a
kazoo. She asked the children to
make the noise every time she read
the word year in her story.
The story was followed by the
singing of The Lord’s Prayer. The
children went downstairs for their
time of worship and fellowship.
The scripture readings were from
Jeremiah 23: 1-16. The Song of
Zechariah was read responsively,
led by Ollie Craig.
Readings were from Luke 23: 33-
43 and Colossians 1: 11-20.
Sandy’s message to the adults
was, They. Everyone refers to They,
when we talk about the Powers that
Be. Let’s turn they into us because
They are instruments of God the
same as We are, she said.
This being the last Sunday of the
Church year is a time to look back
and see just what happened to Us
during the past year, she noted.
The hymn We Are Pilgrims was
sung.
