Let’s start with happy news this
week.
The Shortreed family has grown
by two in one way or another. The
first newest Shortreed to arrive was
Bryce Edwin, to happy parents Rob
and Andrea on Oct. 5. He’s
welcomed home by big brothers
Adam and Liam and makes
Shortreed baby number seven for
Walton Road grandparents Ken and
Judy Shortreed.
Next, the Shortreed family grew
by another with Matthew
Shortreed’s marriage to Julie Moffaton Oct. 13. The cool windy daydidn’t dim the spirits of all whoattended the occasion.A beautiful wedding featuring thecolours of fall with yellows, oranges, burgundy and ivory everywhere.Following the dinner at BMGcommunity centre and the usual
toasts, there was a slide presentation
of the Shortreed and Moffat families,
friends and the courtship of Matt and
Julie. It was shown by Gloria Wilbee
and son Kevin.
It was an absolutely beautiful
tribute to them and the perfect
music accompanied the
presentation.
Congratulations to Matt and Julie
who will be residing on Blyth Road.
We welcome Julie to the community
of Walton.
Good news. Howard Hackwell is
out of the hospital and home. While
Howard was in hospital,
Patricia, Eddie and Sebastian were
up to help out Audrey and visit withDad.A group of men have been awayhunting in the past weeks. Travellingto Kirkland Lake to hunt moosewere Paul McCallum, Chris Poland, friend Tony, Lorne Glanville, Kellyand Jamie Dalton and Barry, Darryland Ben Hoegy.
That large group means a lot of
fun but only one moose. The lucky
shooter of the prize moose, a
really big one I hear was Lorne
Glanville.
The McCallum men travelled back
to Manitoulin Island and the
McCallum cottage while the rest of
the hunt crew returned home.
Meeting the McCallum men were
some of the rest of the family. They
were there to enjoy Thanksgiving at
the cottage.
Joining the men were Pearl and
Dianne McCallum, Wayne and
Joyce Hartman, Cindy, Lauren and
Alaina Poland, Scott, Colleen and
Jake Bromley. It was a great family
get together.
Bob Dalton is still a patient in
Wingham hospital. A special visitor
was great-granddaughter Niamh
with mom Jennifer Dalton and Kelly
Ann Dalton.
After visiting Bob, they stopped in
to visit Grandma Mabel Willis and
go out for supper. As chance would
have it, Donna McClure and Tina
stopped in for a bite as well, so now
we have six female Willis relatives
covering four generations in one
spot. Isn’t life grand!
Celebrating a 50th wedding
anniversary with a party at Seaforth
Agriplex were Laird and Ruby
Finlayson. Daughter Shelley
McGavin and family, Brian,
Brandon, Abby and Tyson of course
were on hand to celebrate and wish
them well.
Lots of Walton family and friends
attended the open house. Congrats to
them.
Get-well wishes go out to Jean
Wilbee as she has been in hospital.
Feel better soon.
A gathering of friends, to wish
Marilyn McDonald good luck and
best wishes, as she soon is moving to
Grand Bend, was held at Neil and
Marie McGavins. The 15 or so
people met there, then travelled to
the White Carnation at Holmesville
to enjoy a lovely dinner. While there,
a call to absent friends Audrey and
Howard Hackwell was made and
Howard said grace via the phone
call.
Returning to the McGavins
following the meal, they all enjoyed
a social visit.
Attending the evening for Marilyn
besides the hosts were Gerry and
Anne Ryan, Don and Pat Nolan,
Jeanne Kirkby and John Gaunt,
Jack and Audrey Cardiff, Jack and
Donna Knight and Jim and Barb
Fritz.
Home for a visit for a week are
Alec and Gail Glanville from
Saskatchewan. I’m sure between
Glanville and Storey get-togethers
they will be kept busy.
The traditional gathering of the
Glanville boys for breakfast was
held at Walton Inn. Alec and Gail
attended the surprise birthday party
for niece Lisa Glanville at the
Legion.
Kathleen Williamson has moved
to her new apartment at the home of
son Tom and Joyce Williamson. I’m
sure she’s going to enjoy her new
place and will enjoy her friends
dropping by.
Granddaughter Sara is busy doing
some painting before she moves into
the house in Walton. So it’s
welcome back to the country,
Kathleen and welcome to the village
Sara.
Motocross has wrapped up for the
season with the last day this past
weekend. A Kawasaki demo day was
held and there were plenty of ridersout to enjoy the last day of theseason. Also on Sunday, the DiscoveryChannel for kids was on hand to filma segment on learning or teachingchildren about motocross bikes, howthey work, the balance, thetechniques – all about bikes and
riding.
The Lee track has become very
popular this year for filming as this
is the third-time camera crews have
been around. It’s a great promotion
of Huron County and Walton and the
area.
Birthday greetings go out to Kara
Godkin, Joyce Hartman, Jared
Kelso, Cheryl Ryan, Greg
Ducharme, Kathy Huether, Stefan
Nichol, Brian Love, Jim McDonald
and Agnes Schade.
A great season
Motocross at Chris Lee’s property wrapped up for another
year last weekend with one last run. It was a great season
that saw great talent make its way into Walton from all over
the province. Not to mention three different shoots,
including last weekend with The Discovery Channel for
Kids coming to Walton. The riders also took in a Kawasaki
demo over the weekend. (Vicky Bremner photo)
