Ushering was Hope Button. Guest organist was Elizabeth Stennett. Guest minister Rev. Gwen Nichol- MacDonald welcomed everyone to church on this Communion Sunday with the Call to Worship which was repeated responsively. The first hymn was Now Thank We All Our God. A minute for mission was read after the hymn. For the children, the message was about two boys who had both broken their legs. One of them whined and the other was cheerful. The children went downstairs for their time of worship and fellowship during the singing of the hymn For the Beauty of the Earth. The scripture verses were from Jeremiah 29: 1, 4-7 and the gospel reading was from Luke 17: 11-19. The hymn We Praise You O God, was sung. Rev. Nichol-MacDonald’s message to the adults was about confidence. It is a gift to disagree and still pull together. Nichol-MacDonald grew up in a small church and said the congregants should celebrate who they are and be proud of it. She said that people want to be in a place where there is joy and friendship. Those serving communion were Joan Clark, Ollie Craig, Fred Meier and Randy Fraser. The last hymn was Sent Forth By God’s Blessing. Keeping it clean The Blyth youth group was busy raking on Saturday. TRY CLASSIFIED The question of what to do about ATVs was back again for North Huron council at the Monday night meeting. Clerk-administrator Kriss Snell told councillors that he had been contacted by Brad Foxton on whether council had come to any decision. Foxton had appeared at an earlier meeting to request council consider permitting ATV use in some areas. Councillor Greg McClinchey said that one of his concerns is that while the current position is that ATVs are not allowed on township roads or property, it doesn’t mean it’s working. “They are on the roads. And I was walking on the Greenway Trail this past weekend and was passed by 17 of them. Simply saying no doesn’t work.” The legal exemptions for farmers and trappers only makes the issue more confusing, he said. Also, the system is complicated by the fact that each municipality has a different view, with some permitting ATV use and others not. Councillor James Campbell said that he had spoken with OPP officers and believed that they were going to be pushing for action. “But how does one move that along,” said McClinchey. “Right now we have a patchwork. You can’t ride here, but you can in the municipality across the road.” While the consensus was that this is a provincial issue, Snell wondered if perhaps the county might be persuaded to “take a shot at spearheading” action. Noting that the patchwork system makes it impossible to police ATVs, McClinchey said, “If I were the OPP, I’d be demanding a uniform system. In fairness to police, how can they possibly chase offenders when the rules can change by crossing a road.” Reeve Neil Vincent and deputy- reeve Murray Scott agreed to take the issue to the county for discussion.
