The Citizen, 2007-10-04, Page 2The nice days of September are now past but they certainly were a pleasure. Puttering outside, bike rides and lovely walks were like a gift, a nice treat and a total surprise. Now if only October… When children live in other places and when they are expected to become part of community the parents then are offered interesting opportunities. On Sunday we were in Barrie to support their music program. For ten days many types of professional music in many varied places are offered to the lucky people in the Barrie area. Their Colours of Music offers great talent as solo acts or in interesting combinations. Our venue was St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church to hear the heavenly music of a clarinet and a Cassevont pipe organ – ah… Anyway we’re happy to see Curt and Julie sharing community and for inviting us to hear one of the highlights of the Barrie scene. Someone needs to remind the wild turkey of its name. There were four of them peacefully snacking on an empty lot just at the outskirts of Barrie. The city welcome sign was also in sight so perhaps the turkeys can read as well. Another species that has lost part of its wild. Anyway it was a nice surprise during the pleasant drive. I hope you have booked your spot with the school to support their fundraiser on Thursday, Oct. 4. Good food, lots of fun and lots of energy. It’s time to get the plans in place for the weekend. It’s time to share with family and friends all the blessings that we daily take for granted. So enjoy the love that you share, and with that seems to come the need to prepare all the favourite foods, to really celebrate Thanksgiving. Enjoy! Betty G.W. PAGE 2. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2007. By Jo-Ann McDonald The general meeting of Brussels Legion Branch 218 was held on Tuesday evening with 10 comrades present. The usual business was discussed and a motion was passed to delve into the issue of making the Branch wheelchair accessible in the future. A committee will be formed to study the issue. Members are welcome to drop any suggestions into the branch. A zone seminar for both veterans’ services and seniors was held at the Branch on Wednesday evening. Branch president Jo-Ann McDonald extended greetings to those in attendance and attended the veterans’ services seminar with Comrade Mabel Glanville. Comrade Deb Trollope attended the seniors seminar. The fish fry crew was off to Kincardine Legion on Saturday to feed 150 for the last travelling fry of the year. The crew included George Adams, Randy White, Jo-Ann McDonald, Greg Wilson and Bruce Raymond. The Brussels Cadets are still collecting pop cans and returnable bottles every Tuesday night. Please drop them off behind the legion on Tuesday night for pickup. They also have cookbooks for sale. There is a supply at the Branch. Early birds is what we like and membership chairman Greg Wilson hopes everyone can get in and pay their dues and be early birds. There are still two draws left to win your 2009 dues, so come on in and save $5 as well. The Branch is still saving pop tabs for wheelchairs and appreciates everyone’s contributions. The Friday night suppers will resume Oct. 12 and the first supper will be roast pork. Comrades who could help out once in a while are asked to call Jo-Ann McDonald. The craft show is just around the corner and Linda Bird would appreciate help from comrades. Give her a call and offer your assistance. Happy Thanksgiving to every- one. At the Branch10 Comradesattend meeting Our Citizen Hank TenPas, a board member for The Citizen presented Doug McArter, right, with a plaque as the Brussels Citizen of the Year. The presentation was made at the recent Optimist meeting. McArter is a member of the club.
