The first part of the Field Crop
Competition, sponsored by the
Brussels Agricultural Society in
conjunction with the Brussels Fall
Fair was completed last week with
the judging of the remaining
standing field crops.
Fields were scored out of a
possible 100 points and to complete
the competition, entrants must
exhibit a crop sample at the fair
which will be scored out of another
possible 100 points. Prizes will be
awarded on the total combined field
and exhibit score.
The field results were as follows:
Winter wheat, first, 91 points, Jeff
Cardiff; tied second, 88.5 points,
Glen Sellers and Jerry Zwep; third,
88 points, Matt Shortreed; tied
fourth, 87.5 points, Bill Sellers and
Neil Mitchell; fifth, 86 points,
Murray Cardiff; sixth, 82.5 points,
Don Fischer.
Barley: first, 86.5 points, Bruce
Higgins; second, 83.5 points, Rob
Vanderveen.
White beans: first, 84.5 points,
Don Fischer; second, 83.5 points,
Jerry Zwep; third, 82.5 points, Glen

further, but there has been a
surprisingly large turnout of new
students registering for this year.
With Rob Payne retiring, Corey
Hernden will be coming in to replace
him, teaching Grade 6/7 and
kindergarten teacher Kerri Hill-Keil is
back from her maternity leave.
Attendance at East Wawanosh
Public School stayed even with what
it was last year, right around 170.
They also welcome a few new faces
around the staff room. Rob Galbraith
will be working EA duties, while
Jenn Overholt will be taking care of
special education.
Hullett Central Public School in
Londesborough welcomes a new
principal, Joy Antoniuk, who came
from secondment with the Ministry of
Education.
The school also will have the help
of EA Darlene Hymers. However,
their attendance is slightly down, 10
students less than last year’s 176.
There are several changes in local
secondary schools, with Herb
Klassen, former principal of Central
Huron Secondary School taking over
as principal at Listowel District
Secondary School.
Taking Klassen’s old job is Laurie
Langstaff, former principal of
Stratford Central Secondary School.
Central Huron Secondary School
also has a new vice-principal coming
in the form of John Brown from
Branksome Hall in Toronto.
This year, the Avon Maitland
District School Board has launched a
new website to coincide with the start
of the 2007-2008 school year at
www.yourschools.ca
