BLYTH UNITED CHURCH
Greeting at Blyth United Church
on Sunday, Sept. 2 were Fred Meier
and Joan Clark. Ushering were
Lavern Clark and David Onn. Guest
organist was Lynda McGregor.
Guest speaker Tom Dunbar
welcomed everyone to church with
the call to worship repeated
responsively.
The first hymn I, the Lord of Sea
and Sky was followed by the prayer
of confession and the assurance of
pardon.
The choir sang an anthem Burdens
are Lifted at Calvary. The next hymn
was May the God of Hope.
Mr. Dunbar had a story for the
children which was followed by the
Lord’s Prayer.
The scripture was from Jeremiah
1: 4-10, Luke 13: 10-17 and Psalm
103 led by Ollie Craig. The hymn
Where Cross the Crowded Ways of
Life was sung.
Mr. Dunbar’s message to the adults
was Bent Woman. Luke tells the
story of Jesus healing the Bent
Woman, on the Sabbath. When a
synagogue official complained Jesus
admonished him in front of all the
people there for putting rules
about when we should work ahead of
compassion for another
human being. People
demonstrate compassion, love,
understanding, tolerance. All these
things lead to that very narrow path
towards God.
The minute for missions was read
by Jessica Dunbar.
The UCW will be starting to make
meat pies in October. Call your
orders to Joann at 519-523-9274.
The Blyth PeeWee softball team is
moving on to the semi-finals of the
WOAA major playoffs.
After a rough start in the best-of-
three series against Wiarton the team
put together two solid efforts to take
the series two games to one.
Game one was played in Wiarton
on Thursday, Aug. 30 with the home
team winning convincingly by a 14-
2 score.
The following night Wiarton came
to Blyth. Homeruns by Tyler
Stevenson, Kayla Black and Adam
Cronin ignited the offence. Also
having a big night at the plate were
Kirby Cook (two runs), Lukas
Witherspoon (two for two) and
Shawn Reinink (two for three).
Big defensive plays by Tyler
Hallahan, Collin Whitfield and
Connor Prescott helped the pitching
tandem of A. Cronin and Ty
Sebastian. Catching the hard
throwing pair was Tyler Black.
It was a 14-8 win for Blyth forcing
game three in Wiarton on Sept. 3.
In game three the Blyth PeeWees
had their bats singing again with
Cronin setting the tempo by clearing
the centrefield fence. Hitting three
for three were Cronin, Hallahan,
Reinink and K. Black. Not wanting
to be outdone, the trio of Whitfield,
Cook and Sebastian all went two for
three. Solid hits by Stevenson, T.
Black, Prescott and Witherspoon
helped score a total of 14 runs.
The steady pitching of Sebastian
and Cronin, along with the errorless
defence by everyone, held Wiarton
at bay. The final score of the decisive
game was 14-6 for Blyth.
The PeeWees now play the winner
of the Grand Valley-Mildmay series.
