The Citizen, 2007-07-26, Page 2PAGE 2. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, JULY 26, 2007.By Jo-Ann McDonaldThe Brussels Cadet Corpsappreciates the support with thecollection and donation of pop cansand returnable bottles left at the rear
of the Legion on Tuesday evenings.
It’s a win-win way for the Cadets to
raise funds and for people who
recycle anyway, to get rid of those
cans and bottles in a helpful way.
Keep up the great work Brussels!
The Legion Branch executive met
on Tuesday evening to carry on with
the usual Branch business of
summer. Financial reports, fish-fry
reports, and the reports on the
upcoming Homecoming events were
heard and discussed.
The help for the food booth has
come along nicely with just a few
spots remaining to be filled. The
help for the jamboree is looked after
and a great afternoon is expected.
The Cadets hope for a good
turnout to the teen dance with D.J.
Joe Carter.
There are no general meetings in
the summer.
The Branch is looking for
someone who is willing to commit
to one Sunday evening a month tohelp in the kitchen at the Sundaynight dances. The job is preparingthe lunch of sandwiches and puttingit out and cleaning up. They would
be working alongside two other
people. Call Jo-Ann if you could
help.
We can report at this time that
Comrade Willis Knight has been
moved back to Fordwich Nursing
Home again.
Two young ladies, sponsored by
Brussels Branch 218, were off to the
Legion provincial track meet in
Ottawa on the weekend. Ami
Schimanski and Darby Alcorn
earned the right to participate a
month ago. They caught the bus in
Kitchener early Friday morning and
were off to Algonquin University
residence to stay for the night.
Arriving Friday afternoon they
checked in, then prepared
themselves to go for competition on
Friday evening. Ami placed eight in
shotput.
Saturday morning, Darby
competed in the javelin competition
and finished seventh throwing a
personal best.
The afternoon was the discus
competition and Darby placed fourth
with a personal best of 3,182 metres.
The girls returned home last
Saturday evening.
At the BranchCadets say thanks
Token of recognition
The downtown flower boxes in Brussels were made
possible through in kind, or in memory donations from a
number of individuals and businesspeople. Small plaques
have been attached to recognize the support. Hank TenPas
has been busy getting them in place before Homecoming
this weekend. Deb Seili lends a hand for the one donated
by her and her husband Joe and family. (Bonnie Gropp photo)

NEWS
FROM BRUSSELS
The anticipation continues to rise
as plans are made for our big
weekend.
Everyone has different views and
expectations of Homecoming 2007.
For some it’s gathering the grown-up
kids back for time together. For
others it’s being with the old ball
team to see if everyone is aging
gracefully. For others it’s the parade,
chance encounters with the life past.
Others just wait for the pajama
parade and the fireworks.
Anticipation is getting tense.
Get ready to live, laugh and play!
Bye now, Betty G.W.
