The Ontario Early Years program,
held in Walton on Wednesday
mornings, had a great group with
five families in attendance. Haden
Flood enjoyed acting out the story
Polar Bear, Polar Bear,What Do You
Hear? Hailey Rehkopf thought it
was very interesting that we
transformed the parachute into a boa
constrictor. Making a snake using
streamers was a huge hit for Julia
VanderMeer.
More children and caregivers
always welcome to attend this free
program for one to six-year-olds on
Wednesday at 10 a.m.
There was action at the diamondsin Walton, both Tuesday andThursday evening.
The Walton Brewers hosted the
Zurich Rangers on Tuesday night,
July 10 and came away with a 3-2
win in extra innings. On the mound
for Walton was Larry Lowes. He
pitched well, giving up two runs in
six innings.
Walton scored its runs in the first
inning, but were stalled until the
eighth inning.
Scott Leonhardt pitched the final
two innings and held Zurich at two
runs.
In Walton’s half of the eighth
inning, with the international rule in
effect and Mark Feeney on second
base, Scott McDonald connected for
a solid single to score Feeney and
capture the win.
The next home game is Sunday,
July 22 at 2 p.m.
The Brewers travelled to a place
near Guelph to participate in the
Ponsonby Fastball Tournament on
the weekend.
The first game was Saturday
morning against the Kitchener
Selects. Scott Leonhardt was
awesome on the mound earning 20
strikeouts in the 1-0 win. Bruce
Pearn hit a nice double to score
Walton’s lone run.
In game two, on Saturday
afternoon, Walton played against the
Ponsonby Sting and came away with
a 9-1 victory. Mel Ross was on the
mound for the game and Matt Babb
hit a grand-slam homerun to give the
Brewers their first four runs. Thebats were hot as Barry Young andJamie Pearn went two for three each.
Saturday saw the Brewers face the
Elora Brewers during a drizzling wet
game. Walton came away with a 5-1
win with Danny Martin on the
mound.
Having great at-bats were Ron
Strome, scoring two runs on a single
and Scott McDonald scoring two
runs on his single.
Sunday morning pitted the
Brewers against a good hitting team,
the New York Bombers. Scott
Leonhardt was on the hill and
pitched well but suffered the 5-1
loss. He tried to help the Brewerscause with a solo homerun, but theBrewers bats were cold. With their
first loss of the true double knockout
tournament, the Brewers faced the
Elora Brewers in the do-or-die game
with Mel Ross on the hill in the 2-1
loss for Walton.
Steve Knight hit a timely double
to score Walton’s run but they just
fell short in earning the needed tying
run. Walton finished third out of the
12-team tournament and were happy
with their play and results.
The Thursday ladies slo-pitch
game was cancelled but the Walton
Indians played against Winthrop.
