Public Hospital on Saturday, July 14,
2007. She was in her 89th year.
Ethel was born in Hullett Twp. on
Feb. 18, 1919, daughter of the late
Austin and Mae Christine (Adams)
Dexter.
Ethel worked as head secretary at
the OMAF office in Clinton for
many years and also worked as a
secretary-receptionist for Dr. Frank
Newland. Ethel was a member of
Knox United Church in Auburn and
a member of its UCW. She was also
a member and active in the Mackay
Choristers,Auburn Seniors Club and
the Walkerburn Club.
Ethel was the beloved wife of the
late Stanley Ball (1982). She was the
loving mother and mother-in-law of
Sharon and Len (Butch) Hoffman of
Hensall, Brenda and Dave Scholl of
Goderich, Daryl Ball of RR1,
Auburn and Arva and Randy
Machan of Elora. She will be sadly
missed by her grandchildren Mike
and Christine Hoffman, Rob and
Sandi Hoffman, Darren and Kendra
Scholl, Craig and Karrianne Machan
and Christopher Machan and by her
great-grandchildren Brianna
Hoffman, Ayden Hoffman, and
Lydia and Mackenzie Machan. Ethel
was the dear sister and sister-in-law
of Viola Sanderson of Blyth, Ferne
McClure of Egmondville, Charles
and Roxie Adams of Goderich and
Wilmer and Marie Glousher of
Londesborough.
Ethel was predeceased by one son
Daryk Ball (2003), one sister NormaGlousher, one brother Elmer Dexterin infancy and by her sisters and
brothers-in-law John Sanderson,
Nelson McClure, Maxine and Ernie
Durnin and Vernice and Harold
Stanbury.
Friends were received at the
Falconer Funeral Homes Ltd.,
Clinton Chapel, 153 High St.,
Clinton on Monday from 2 - 4 and 7
- 9 p.m. where the funeral service
was held on Tuesday, July 17 at 2
p.m. with Rev. Paul Ross, a former
minister at Knox United Church,
Auburn, officiating.
Interment followed at Ball’s
Cemetery, Hullett Twp.
Flowerbearers were
granddaughters Christine Hoffman,
Sandi Hoffman, Kendra Scholl,
Karrianne Machan and Brianna
Hoffman.
Pallbearers were grandsons Mike
and Rob Hoffman, Darren Scholl,
Craig and Christopher Machan and
nephew Bill Stanbury.
Donations to Ball’s Cemetery or to
the charity of one’s choice would be
appreciated as expressions of
sympathy.
GERRIT (JOHN) HAKKERS
Gerrit (John) Hakkers of RR5,
Goderich passed away at Clinton
Public Hospital on Wednesday, July
11, 2007. He was in his 81st year.
He was the beloved husband of
Alie (Stryker) Hakkers. Mr. Hakkers
was the loving father and father-in-
law of Ben and Jeanette Hakkers of
Goderich, Linda and Irvin Pease of
RR2, Blyth, Helen and Keith Lappof RR1, Auburn, Gary and DebbieHakkers of Goderich, Fred and Deb
Hakkers of Blyth, Evelyn and Ron
Smith of Goderich, Jerry and Cathy
Hakkers of London and Mike and
Kari Hakkers of Goderich. He was
also loved and will be sadly missed
by 18 grandchildren and five great-
grandchildren. He was the dear
brother-in-law of Doris DeBruin of
The Netherlands.
His parents, two sisters and four
brothers predeceased him.
Friends were received at the
Falconer Funeral Homes Ltd.,
Bluewater Chapel, 201 Suncoast Dr.
E., Goderich on Thursday from 6 - 9
p.m. The funeral service was held at
Trinity Christian Reformed Church,
Goderich on Friday, July 13 at 11
a.m. with Rev. Stephen Tamming
officiating.
Interment was in Colborne
Cemetery.
Flowerbearers were Linda Pease,
Helen Lapp and Evelyn Smith.
Pallbearers were Ben, Gary, Fred,
Jerry and Mike Hakkers and Jan
Wittenberg.
Donations to the Canadian
Diabetes Association or to the
charity of one’s choice would be
appreciated as expressions of

KENT DOUGLAS HOWATT
Mr. Kent Douglas Howatt of
Carstairs, Alberta, passed away
suddenly at his home on July 4, 2007
at the age of 41.
Kent was born at Clinton, Ontario
on Jan. 1, 1966. After moving toCalgary in 1992, Kent pursued acareer in construction and was
involved with plumbing, electrical,
and framing. During his spare time,
he enjoyed many sports including
hockey, baseball, broomball, darts
and many others.
Kent is survived by his wife
Sharon, parents Gordon and Colleen
of Auburn, and two brothers Kevin
of Waterloo, and Keith and Shelley
of Chestermere, Alberta. He is also
survived by his nephews Michael
and Matthew as well as numerous
aunts, uncles and cousins.A celebration of life service washeld on Saturday, July 7 at Mountain
View Funeral Chapel in Didsbury,
Alberta. Cremation has taken place.
A family graveside service was
held at the Blyth Union Cemetery,
on Friday, July 13.
As expressions of sympathy
memorial donations to the Heart and
Stroke Foundation would be greatly
appreciated.
Arrangements were entrusted to
the Falconer Funeral Homes, 153
High St., Clinton.
The Belgrave Community Centre
Fundraising Committee is looking
for community support as they
endeavour to raise funds for
capital projects at the community
centre.
Projects include a new gas
furnace and heat pump, upgrading
and replacing arena lightning
and an emergency entrance
door.
A beef barbecue and live
and silent auctions are planned
for Saturday, Aug. 18 at the
Community Centre.
The community extends
congratulations to Adam McBurney,
son of Dan and Marjorie who
graduated June 26 from Georgian
College, Orillia with a diploma in
Police Foundations.
He is currently employed as a
security officer at Casino Rama in
Orillia.
The community also extends
congratulations to Amy Barnes who
received her Honours Bachelor of
Arts Degree with Distinction in
Philosophy at the Winter
Convocation of the University of
Guelph.
This fall, she will be entering
the Doctor of Philosophy program
at McGill University in Mont-
real.

congratulations and best wishes to
Mike and Donelda Cottrill on the
occasion of their 25th wedding
anniversary.
