Blyth U-15 boys hosted a game of soccer against St. Columban II on July 11. Blyth put on an awesome showing in the first half, taking the lead in ball control and shots on net. St. Columban’s goalie did a great job at keeping his team in the game and Blyth just couldn’t get the ball into their opponent’s net. St. Columban came out strong and scored off a quick throw in, allowing Blyth no time to cover their opponents. St. Columban also scored on a penalty kick to take a 2- 0 lead. Blyth had the opportunity to score on a penalty shot, but unfortunately the ball hit the goal post. Blyth players dug in deep to find some extra energy and came up with some beautiful plays. Jessie Pot kicked the ball across the field then Brent Drost picked up the pass and shot the ball at the net. The ball neatly bounced off St. Columban’s defence and into the goal to get Blyth on the scoreboard. Matt Steele kicked the ball across the field and Drost picked it up and shot it into the net to tie it with the final goal of the game. Both teams tried their best and worked hard as a team to make some good plays during this soccer match. Kurtis Kolkman played a great game in net for his team. Man of the match was given to Caleb Haak. Honourable mention went to Brendon Boven for his nice long kicks and excellent hustle after the ball, and to Drost and Pot for their work as forwards.
