THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, MAY 17, 2007. PAGE 7.
A handful of parents from Grey
Central attended A Celebration of
Cultivating Character at Mitchell
District High School on May 5.
There was a cabaret featuring
students from different schools
within the Avon Maitland District
School Board. This was followed by
keynote speaker Justin Trudeau,
who talked about environmental
issues and developing community
leaders.
While the parents were busy
enjoying the cabaret, students from
kindergarten to Grade 12 had the
opportunity to listen to Trudeau
outside in an informal setting.
The Stratford Festival and the
Foundation for Enriching Education
Perth Huron have made 10 tickets
available to all elementary schools
in the AMBSB. Ten students from
Grey have been chosen to attend a
matinee performance of The
Comedy of Errors at the Stratford
Festival on June 14.
Two students have also been
chosen to go to the Costume Hall to
see what happens behind the scenes
to produce a theatre presentation.
The school hosted their newest,
youngest enrollees of Grey Central
last Thursday at a bus safety
presentation by bus owner and
contractor, John Chapman. Besides
students-to-be experiencing the
thrill of their first bus ride, they
talked about how to ride safely and
be careful to watch for traffic and
obey the drivers' instructions.
While children took a ride on the
bus, parents discussed details of
starting school next year and had
any general questions answered
about starting kindergarten in the
fall.
As part of the "caring for others"
initiative, Grey Central is holding a
Jump Rope for Heart" event on May
25 at the school starting at 2 p.m.
Students will gather pledges and
there will be special events with
skipping ropes that afternoon,
promoting heart healthy fun and
supporting the Heart and Stroke
Foundation.
The spring concert, Grey Idol,
takes place on Thursday, May 17 for
Grades 5 to 8. The variety show
begins at 7 p.m.
Blast from the past
On last Saturday’s beautiful afternoon, members of the Maitland Car Club took a short drive
to Sharon’s Miniatures in Blyth, parking in front of her establishment for a short while. The Club
was coming through town, Sharon asked them to stop in to see her, and they couldn’t resist.
