The fee for bag tags in North
Huron will increase by 50 cents as of
July 1.
Council approved the increase to
$2 at its May 7 meeting.
Following approval, director of
finance/treasurer Donna White said
it was important people understand
the revenue raised by the sale of
bag tags is not a money-making
venture.
“We are still $150,000 short to run
the landfill after the revenue from
bag tags,” said White. “We are
not making a profit off bag tag
sales.”
Noting that the intent is to try and
make the service as close to user pay
as possible, White added. “The idea
is that with five people in my home
we generate more garbage so
should have to pay more to get rid of
it.”
“The $1.50 doesn’t even cover
collection,” added clerk-
administrator Kriss Snell.
There will be no change to the
tags’ appearance so old tags will be
honoured after the July date.

A donation was made by the Blyth Legion Ladies Auxiliary to the arena board to be used for
the defibrillator for the Blyth arena. The $1,000 cheque was presented to North Huron. The
hope is that more community organizations will come on board with support. Anyone
