have arrived at easily.
Seili says that when the Family
Health Team was first announced,
they came to the municipality for
help with the clinic, then the
municipality began putting funds
away for the venture; only to
discover they didn’t own the
building, so they couldn’t do work
on it.
“So we started to negotiate with
the Hospital Trust to get the building
back, but through tireless efforts,
negotiations and different scenarios,
it still ended up they weren’t going
to lease or sell the building to us,”
Seili said.
“So to move forward, to house
a Family Health Team, that’s
when we decided that if we
didn’t own the land, that we’d
be better off to build on what we
do own. We did have deals worked
out, there were gentlemens’
agreements, but then deadlines came
and went and they never came to the
table.”
While Seili says that the road to
here has not been an easy one, he is
proceeding with caution into the
future, but doesn’t anticipate any big
snags along the way.
“I wish I had a crystal ball,” he
said.
“I don’t foresee any problems in
the future with the changing of the
Family Health Team, and it gets
better as you bring on more doctors,
not to mention that the provincial
government is starting to look more
at rural healthcare.”
