Eligible households include new and resale homes that are detached, semi-detached, condominiums and stacked homes. The assistance will be in the form of a forgivable loan of 5% of the cost of an eligible home to a maximum of $8,500.00. Maximum purchase price is $174,500.00 and household income must not exceed $52,600.00. In order to plan information sessions for this program, the County of Huron is asking for expressions of interest from households that would participate in the sessions. Drawing conclusions Registered art therapist Sheila O’Donovan was the guest speaker at last Saturday’s Women’s Day Out, themed Hooked on Hobbies. O’Donovan spoke to the group about art therapy and the benefits of it. She cited several examples of patients and people achieving breakthroughs using this technique of therapy. (Shawn Loughlin photo) A potluck lunch started the Majestic Women’s Institute meeting on April 11 in the Brussels Library. Ruth Bauer presided over the meeting. After the usual business, it was time to reveal the secret sunshine sisters. Volunteers were assigned to help with the quilt and craft show on April 21 as the Listowel Agricultural Hall, as well as the casserole supper and card party for April 25 at the Brussels library. Leona Armstrong mentioned the bench for the butterfly park. There is no price on the cost as of yet. Mrs. Armstrong gave the annual secretary’s minutes, while Yvonne Knight gave the financial report. Edna McLellan gave the Coins for Friendship and the Sunshine Fund. Lucy Hesse gave the ROSE co- ordinator report with all the activities over the last year. She said, 2,764 volunteer hours were recorded. Kathy Bridge reported about Tweedsmuir, asking new members for their profiles so they could be included in the members section. Over 60 guests attend the UFO gatherings since September. Information was given about a young boy with leukemia who wants as many birthday cards as possible sent to him by May 30. The nominations report was given by Lucy Hesse. Darlene Harding, the Huron-Perth District Women’s Institute, installed the new executive: past president, Kathy Bridge; president, Ruth Bauer; first vice-president, Edna McLellan; second vice-president, Yvonne Knight; secretary, Lucy Hesse; treasurer, Yvonne Knight; District director, Ruth Bauer; alternate, Kathy Bridge; PRO, Kathy Bridge and Jackie Mirrota; ROSE, Leona Armstrong; pianist, Marie McCutcheon; Tweedsmuir, Kathy Bridge and Jackie Mirrota; advocacy, Cathrine Campbell and Kathy Bridge; nominations, Kathy Bridge and Ruth Bauer; branch directors, Ruth Bauer, Cathrine Campbell and Edna McLellan. Ruth Sauve-Schade gave the auditor’s report finding the books in good order. Darlene Harding presented Bonnie Lindsay and Jackie Mirrota with the FWIO badge for being a member for a year. Two members who joined this year are Olivia O’Hardy and Bev Craddock. The fire victims bylaw was increased to $75 from $50. Mrs. Hesse presented Mrs. Harding with flowers. Donations will be given to Water for All, ACWW, Adelaide Hoodless upkeep fund and the Erland Lee operating fund. The next UFO will be at Edna McLellan’s on May 8. Time for the Mystery Tour on May 9 remains a mystery but members will be telephoned when it’s known. Majestic WI names new executive at meeting Morning Star Lodge met April 10 in the lodge hall with Noble Grand Sister Nelva Scott presiding. Eighteen members were present. A donation was made to Huron Perth Children’s Aid campaign fund. The election of officers took place. They are: Noble Grand, Joyce Jacklin; Vice-Grand, Carrol Fowler; secretary, Elva Brown; treasurer, Joan Bernard; financial secretary, Lois McCall; trustee, Gertie Kellington. Morning Star Lodge meets to elect six new officers North Huron council briefs Rural funding is ‘Good news’ The announcement of $390,000 Rural Infrastructure Investment Initiative funding was included in North Huron council’s April 2 agenda. The information was “good news” said clerk-administrator Kriss Snell. *** Bills and accounts totalling $702,367.75 were approved for payment. *** A letter was received from Jane Gardner, general manager of the Blyth Festival, thanking council for the contributions. She also explained again the plans for recognition opportunities for North Huron during the Festival’s 2007 season. These include two complimentary tickets to the opening night gala, one pair of tickets to each of the theatre’s four openings, and employee and council discount and the township logo featured on the season poster, house program, lobby signage and the Festival website. *** Council supported a resolution from the county encouraging the province to assume 100 per cent of the Ontario Disability Support Program. *** Council agreed to donate a membership to the North Huron Wescast Community Complex for the annual Maitland Valley Conservation Foundation annual dinner and auction that will be held April 20 in Brussels.
