More snowbirds, have come home
to our cold spring weather.
Returning this past week were
Margery Huether, Casey and Betty
McCutcheon and Mel and Lois
McCutcheon.
Returning from a great vacation in
Florida were Brenda, Nicole and
Jody McIntosh and Nicole
Williamson. They enjoyed two
weeks of fun, sun and a great time.
They tripped around and saw some
great sights, including, of course,
Disneyland.
Get-well wishes go out to Pauline
Bennett who had knee surgery last
week. We hope she progresses well.
Don Dalton is feeling much better
since suffering from pneumonia. He
recovered just in time to enjoy
celebrating the birth of a new
granddaughter. Congratulations to
Gerrid and Val Dalton on the birth of
their first child Braelynn Nicole. The
population of Seaforth is up by one.
Out celebrating his birth not quite
70 years ago was Jack Ryan, along
with wife Marianna and friends Don
and Pat Dalton, Lorne and Bonnie
Glanville and Eric and Carla
Goodfella. They enjoyed a birthday
lunch on Thursday at the Walton Inn.
Marianna expected a family get
together later that night to celebrate
with Jack.
The hot topic on Thursday was the
power surge that hit Walton with the
return of power Wednesday night.
There were lots of Walton and area
folks who lost electronics due to the
surge. Even homes with power
surge protectors on the electrical
panels were hit hard. This included P
& H Elevators, Chris Lee, Ken
Dalton, Lavern Godkin, Mike
Durrell, Calvin Flood and Bob
Simpson, just to name a few.
Our condolences are expressed to
the family of Doris Fischer who
passed away last Thursday. Truly a
wonderful lady who worked hard
and enjoyed life. A customer of mine
for many years, we shared many
laughs together. We recounted manytimes, the day a mouse ran out fromunder her hair dryer, how she didn’tscream but calmly said to me wherethe mouse went. We proceeded to tryand get the cat to kill it, but the dogdid. We laughed and smiled aboutmany things and always enjoyed ourhour together.
Our sympathies to Murray, Carol,
Sandra, Bonnie, Bruce and Kendra
and their families.
There was a great crowd at the
buck and doe for Kerrie McClure
and Dan Lauzan in Elmira on the
weekend. The McClure families
from the area were well represented
and enjoyed the live band music of
Moonshine. Laurie (McClure)
Mosser’s husband Jody is in this
band. There was a huge raffle draw
as well and they report a great time.
Those attending the Huron East
Recreation fundraiser The Legend in
Black report it was fantastic. The
artists performing Johnny Cash
songs were excellent and performed
for 1 1/2 hours.
The pre-show artist was Terry
Sumsion, whose performance was
also excellent.
Those from Walton attending the
Huron County Beef Producers
evening at BMG also report
enjoying a delicious roast beef
dinner and evening.
The Brian McGavin family was
away to Vaughan (near Toronto) for
a weekend of hockey. Abby
McGavin is a member of the Huron
Perth Grey Bruce PeeWee B Ontario
Women’s Hockey League team.
They earned the right to represent
this area and qualify for the
provincial tournament earlier this
month.
Play started on Friday with the 11-
member team defeating Sault Ste.
Marie 3-0. Playing three games and
earning three wins put them at the
top of their pool. They defeated
Cobourg 2-0, Clearview 3-1, then
Georgina 4-1, in the first game of
play-offs on Saturday.
Heading into Sunday’s play
undefeated, they faced off against
North Bay. In a great game they
were tied at the end of regulation
time 1-1.
In double overtime, the team
suffered the 2-1 loss to send them to
the bronze medal game. The girls
met Cobourg again for this game. It
took five periods of overtime play
before Seaforth clinched the 1-0 win
and the medal.Happy and tired young ladiesreturned to Seaforth for a triumphantride through the town and a celebrityparty at the McGavins. Team members include AbbyMcGavin, Jordan and ShannonMurray, Heidi Raynard, HeatherHeard, Tabitha Arts, Alicia
Middegaal, Nicole Marriage,
Stefanie Slyuss, Maddie Melady and
Marrissa Scott.
The Walton Hall hosted a roast
beef dinner on Sunday and for the
first time ever, was sold out so the
help went home hungry.
Over 120 enjoyed the dinner.
Helping out were Judy Lee, Judy
Emmrich, Leona McDonald, Marie
McGavin, Patty Banks and
Cassandra, Dave Haney and Nick
Durrell. Thanks for everyone’s hard
work.
Dropping in for dinner and
enjoying a visit with many Walton
friends was Randy Banks. He was
able to see many acquaintances from
the congregation of Duff’s United
Church.
There were lots of Walton folks at
the Brent to Brian’s Drowning Dog
Canoe fundraiser for epilepsy on
Saturday in Seaforth. Chris and Judy
Lee and Scott McDonald report not
getting wet, but others were not so
lucky. The event raised over $1,600
for the cause. Sixty-two teams
participated. There was fast and cold
water for the canoeing, but a warm
Legion, hot food and social time to
be enjoyed after.
Celebrating birthdays this past
week were Katie Emmrich, Jack
Ryan, Neil Williamson, Trevor
Sutcliffe, Mitch Blake, Theresa
Pryce, Donna Knight, Eddie
Andrades, Diety Bos, Sarah
Alexander, Jacob Gulutzen, Ben
Terpstra, and Jennifer Williamson.
My good friend Betty McDonald
celebrated her birthday last Tuesday.
She is 92 years young. She had a
busy day with lunch at my home,
company arriving with flowers in theafternoon and bridge with her goodfriends in the evening at her home. Ahalf dozen birthday phone callsmade for a happy birthday. It must be spring as the sport ofmailbox smashing has begun withMoncrieff Road in Morris beingstruck. Bricks were the weapons of
choice and were left at the scene of
the crime. Parents may need to check
their brick piles to see if they are all
still there.
Two local women showed
community initiative in organizing a
roadside cleanup from the
intersection of County Roads 12 and
25 south of Winthrop. Brenda
Dalton and Marianna Ryan were the
organizers and the job will happen
this Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon.
What a great idea for everyone to get
involved and clean up the roadsides.
Duff’s United Church, Walton and
Bluevale United Church held a joint
service on April 15 to say goodbye to
student supply diaconal minister
Gail Clarkson who has served the
pastoral charge for the last six
months.
Congregation members were
greeted by Jeff and Shannon, Jacob,
Mackenzie and Teagan McGavin.
Gail has used Barnabas the hand
puppet many times in her children’s
time and on this Sunday, Barnabas
bid the children farewell. Different
tales and stories of his time in this
charge were recounted. The Bluevale
children’s choir sang This Little
Light of Mine.
The Ministry of music celebrated a
joint presentation of song by the
Walton and Bluevale choir.
Gail’s homily was entitled A Time
for the Vine and These Branches.
She recounted her journey of faith
and of her time with the Walton-
Bluevale pastoral charge.
The Walton band played during
the offering which was collected by
Jeff McGavin and Ross Bennett.
Playing were Pearl McCallum,
Marion Godkin, Marie McGavin,
Phyllis Mitchell, Gloria Wilbee and
Graeme Craig.
The sacrament of communion was
led by special guest Rev. Alun
Thomas, assisted by Gail, Patty
Banks and Dianne McCallum. Marie
McGavin presented Gail with a
flower arrangement and wished her
well on behalf of the congregations.
A lunch, followed by cake and
ice-cream was enjoyed by the nearly
100 people in attendance following
the service.
The food bank is in need of
donations. Grocery tapes need to be
brought in or given to Marilyn
McDonald.

Hoping you
will enjoy and
use some of the
recipes I will
be giving each
month. They
have all been
tested by me in
my home, and
will come from
many sources.
They are easy family food that
teenagers and parents will enjoy.

Pat chicken dry. Beat egg with
milk. Mix almonds with crumbs.
Set each step aside.
Lightly dust chicken with flour.
Dip into egg mixture, letting excess
drip off.
Put crumbs and almonds in a
plastic bag.
Add chicken one or two pieces at
a time, close up the bag and shake to
coat.
Place pieces on a cookie sheet,
cover with a tea towel and put in
refrigerator for up to six hours. Put
