Happy 90th birthday to Helen Stonehouse of Braemar Retire- ment Home who will celebrate on April 10. My column will be short this week as most of you know I lost my life-long partner on Saturday, March 31 after a short illness. Don was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor on Feb. 21 of this year. I have spent most of my time with him in Clinton and London hospital. If it had not been for the support of family and friends and the nurses and doctors in both hospitals the journey would have been much harder. Thank you to everyone who took the time to ask for him or sent cards and flowers while he was a patient. There were 9 1/2 tables in play at the euchre of March 26. Winners were: high lady, Betty Archambault, 72; high man, Dorothy Carter, 95; lone hands,Vera Hesselwood, five, Delores Howatt, four; low lady, Geraldine Dale, 46; low man, Thelma Johnston, 47; door prize, Bernice McClinchey; share the wealth, June Robinson, Kay Hesselwood, Geraldine Dale, Willis Bromley. North Huron council is holding a committee of the whole meeting on April 10 at 7 p.m. at the Blyth Arena and all residents are encouraged to attend. Blyth councillor Greg McClinchey raised the issue in February and it was adopted by his fellow councillors that council should hold a meeting in Blyth and one in East Wawanosh. Ladies are reminded to mark Saturday, April 14 on their calendars and to plan to attend the 13th Annual Women’s Day Out, sponsored by the Blyth United Church Women. By Scot Russell, Outreach Co-ordinator Friends of Hullett The Friends of Hullett are proud to present Waterfowl Day 2007 at the Hullett Provincial Wildlife Area, Saturday, April 7 – starting at 9 a.m. Waterfowl Day is run in co- operation with the Huron Fringe Field Naturalists. Members of the HFFN will be on hand to help identify the birds and aid less experienced birders appreciate the spectacle of the spring waterfowl migration at Hullett. There are 15 species of duck that breed regularly at the Hullett Marsh. These stats are according to the Ontario Breeding Bird Atlas, second edition (2001-2005). Other waterfowl and marsh bird species are well studied during the springtime migration as well. This group is highlighted by hundreds of tundra swans passing through on their way north. For Waterfowl Day, duck watchers are asked to meet at the handicapped viewing stand, 40677 Summerhill Rd. at 9 a.m. on April 7. From there search out and view the birds as they flock to Hullett during the spring migration. Highlight species include the American wigeon, northern shoveler,, northern pintail, redhead, and ring-necked duck. As of March 26, hundreds of tundra swans have already stopped over and continue to arrive as they carry on their northward journey to the Arctic. They can be found at numerous locations around the marsh but most easily along Summerhill Road near Wildlife Line along the river. As for duck species, as of the writing of this story, 13 species have been spotted. Check the website at www.hullettmarsh.org for updates on the progress of the migration as well as for reports of rare species at the marsh. If you would like to have a tour of the property, have any questions, or would just like to find out more about the area, e-mail outreach@hullettmarsh.org or call 519-482-7011. Happy trails Dorothy Riehl, centre, received her pin from Canada Post for 35 years of faithful service on Monday. Susan Bromley, left, and Linda Walker, right, were on hand for the presentation.
