The Belgrave league, Thursday night curling has been hit hard missing four consecutive nights of curling due to severe weather conditions. *** In the ladies’ Tuesday night league two games ended with the same score as Debbie Gammie defeated Marg Moffat 10-6 and Mary Henry won by the same score over Sandra Morrison. Ann Crawford was an 8-2 winner over Cathy Donnelly and Amy Miller was in top form defeating Kayla Bishop 12-2. *** In the Tuesday competitive league the DeVos brothers continued to win as Aart defeated Earl Fitch 9-1 and brother Bill edged Shawn Cottrill 6-5. Russ Taylor was a 9-6 winner over Don Edgar and Rob Middleton had good rock control with an 11-4 over Calvin Ruttan. *** In the Wednesday mixed league it was the last night of the regular schedule with the playoffs to start next week Steve Burke was a 9-5 winner over Leanne Elston and Aart DeVos was a 9-3 winner over Wayne Horton. In a close one Tammy Adams defeated Earl Fitch 9-8 and Dean Newson defeated John Dailleboust. It certainly was a battle to the end for the regular season schedule and oh so close with Dean Newson on top with 11 wins. Tied for second were Steve Burke and Aart DeVos with 10 wins. Then in a three-way tie for the next spot were Earl Fitch, Leanne Elston and John Dailleboust all with nine wins followed by Tammy Adams with eight wins and Wayne Horton in the cellar with six wins. It is certainly a well-balanced league when you consider only two wins between the top team and sixth spot. Now the teams start the playoffs which should certainly be very competitive. *** In Friday night action all games were rather one-sided as Bill McDonald was a 15-5 winner over Lynn Hickey, Shawn Cottrill won 12-8 over W. Waechter and Barry Simpson was a 14-5 winner over Hugh Clugston. *** The Belgrave league held its mixed bonspiel on March 3. In the Huron Bay Co-op draw the winners were the Dow rink with Ivan Dow as skip along with his nieces Marion and Cathy and nephew Steven. In the Howson and Howson Limited draw the winning rink was Fred and Linda Meier and Brenda and Dave Linton. *** In the daytime league in Thursday morning action it was Norm Fairles 9, Lloyd Wheeler 2. Stewart Leedham continued his winning ways with an 8-2 victory over Glenn McMichael. The Bruce Robertson rink scored a big 10-3 win over Mac Inglis. A key shot by Ann Crawford in the eighth end resulted in a 9-7 win over Ivan Dow. In afternoon action there were lots of rocks on the rings as Wendell Stamper defeated Irving Elliott 10-9, Les Shaw scored a 9-7 win over Ron McMichael and Nelson Frank, back as skip after a southern cruise, edged Jim Coultes 9-7. *** Remember the country curlers mixed bonspiel takes place this Saturday, March 17 with two full draws of eight teams.
