The Citizen, 2007-02-22, Page 11For the past several weeks my
focus has been elsewhere. I have
spent most of my spare time over the
past five weeks at the Stratford
hospital intensive care unit. Mother
had become ill with pneumonia
shortly after Christmas and after a
40-day struggle and with herchildren at her bedside, MyrtleMcArthur passed away peacefullyFeb. 7, 2007.I have been touched by all thosewho have shown me and my familygreat kindness during this time. Yourcards and visits have beencomforting in our grief.I apologize to all who may havesent time sensitive information
intended for the column and I will do
my best to include what details I can,
that I have received by e-mail over
the past month.
Since last I wrote, Wayne and I
enjoyed a lunch out with sister
Adele, and Mike Drennan (of
Goderich) along with Nancy and
Greg Park of Auburn. There was no
particular reason for the mid-winterintermission, but it was an enjoyabletime out and sure hope we can do itagain.Emily Mae Andrews was bornThursday, Feb.1. Parents are Ian andBev Andrews. The birth wasannounced to the community viapink balloons outside the home ofgrandparents Sandy and ShirleyAndrews, of Auburn.
I am scheduled to speak at the
Belgrave Women’s Institute
luncheon meeting on Tuesday and I
look forward to reporting on that
event next week.
Klaus and Rhea Seeger from near
Auburn, went skiing in Parry Sound
on the weekend with Bill and Lynn
Martin. The Martins lived in the Port
Albert area when Bill was with theHuron County Health Unit a numberof years ago. The weather waspicture perfect and they managed toski eight km.If the bluebirds are any sign ofspring then it’s a good job theSeegers got their skiing in this week.Rhea spotted the pair of predictorson Feb. 9. Daughter Sarah gotpictures and since then the family
has put out chopped suet and other
enticements with no return
performance as yet. Rhea says she is
hoping the early visit means we are
in for a major meltdown. As our
deep freeze continues I suspect it
was two snowbirds turned blue from
cold. Either way, you are right Rhea,
a bluebird trumps a robin!

The first meeting of the
Walkerburn club since November
was held at Ila Cunningham’s on
Feb. 12 with five members present.
The afternoon was spent making
St. Patrick’s Day tray favours for
Clinton hospital and working on
their 10th quilt to be donated to the
breast cancer sale in Stratford.
The roll call was answered by
what they did on the stormy days.
Three members quilted on their own
quilts at home, one knit socks and
the fifth crocheted an afghan.
The next meeting will be held
March 12 with the place to be
announced later. Ethel Ball will be
on lunch and Betty Archambault
will provide the program.
Cake and ice cream was served by
Mrs. Archambault and the hostess.
Everyone quilted again before
going home. The members who quilt
will be spending a few more
afternoons before finished.
