Blyth Bantams even in OMHA quarter-finals
The Blyth PeeWee girls team had
an exciting weekend of hockey.
On Saturday it was a home game
against Wallace. With only two extra
players on the bench, the girls
managed to keep the opposing team
from scoring until late in the second
and had many chances themselves
on the Wallace netminder.
They came out with lots of steam
in the third and thrilled the audience
with the end-to-end action. The
final score was 2-0 for the visitors.
On Sunday, the PeeWees travelled
to Walkerton with a few extra
players on the bench pulled up from
the girls Atom team. With no
scoring for either team during the
first period, Nicole Middegaal
finally put Blyth on the board
halfway through the second assisted
by Rebecca Chalmers and Kayla
Dale.
A few minutes later, Rebecca
Chalmers slid one home unassisted.
The girls came out keen in the third
and with only a minute and a half to
go, Chloe Middegaal tallied another
goal with the assist going to
Courtney Middegaal.
Walkerton pulled their goalie in
the final minute of the game which
opened up the net for Chloe
Middegaal to score once again. This
time the assist went to Laura
Higgins and Jordan Teed.
Goalie Justine Reid was awarded
a well-deserved 4-0 shutout. Strong
defensive play by McKenzie
McGavin and forward Ashley
Higgins gave the girls a well-
deserved win.
