Burden continued with the series "On
the Bethlehem Road" speaking from
Matthew 2:.4-5, on the theme, "Miss-
ing Christmas," Mrs, Alex McCracken
and Mrs. Charles Hoffman sang, "No
Room in the Inn."
Miss Margaret Curtis was the hos-
tess this week for the meeting of the
Women's Institute, when a Christmas
programme was presented. The presi-
dent, Mrs. Joe Smith presided and re-
ported that the sum of $36,05 had been
forwarded to the Salvation Army Red
Shield Fund, an increase of $5.05 over
last year's collection, also that the Nat-
ional Film Board pictures sponsored by
the Women's Institute would be
shown in the Community Hall on the
evening of January 9th. Mrs, L. C.
Jorgensen. was the, guest speaker and
chose for her subject, "Bethlehem".
She spoke of climatic conditions, its
geographic position and mentioned
several Bible characters who were born
at Bethlehem, including Jesus Christ,
the. Saviour of Mankind.
In answer to the Roll Call "Uses for
used Christmas Greeting Cards", many
interesting ideas were given. One mem-
ber exhibited a scrap book, the hostess
had the window curtains in her home
decorated with wreaths of holly,
Christmas• bells and glistening flowers
cut from Christmas cards, making an
attractive setting for the programme,
Mrs. Carl Johnston was at the piano
for Carol singing. Lunch was served
and a social time enjoyed.
BLUEVALE
Mrs. Charles Hoffman accompanied
by her daughter, Joyce, attended the
funeral of her aunt, Mrs. John Haist
of Exeter, on Saturday.
At a service in the United Church
Schoolroom on Sunday evening, Rev.
IL E. Cronhielm of Wroxeter, gave an
address on his missionary sojourn in
Quebec which was illustrated with
many interesting coloured slides.
Rev. J. A. Burden addressed the Y.
PAT. meeting in the Sunday School
room on Friday night and spoke on
*'The Triangular Christian" stressing
the three sides. Health, Work and
Worship, The president, Miss Wilda
Breckenridge conducted the meeting.
The president, Delores Hamilton had
cliarge,,of the Mission Band on Friday
afternoon. The scripture lesson was
read by Mary Darling. "Birthday
Greetings" was sung for Susan Sellers.
"Aunt Ellen tells the Christmas Story"
was the title of the story told by Miss
Margaret Curtis.
Mrs. Alex Armstrong, Brussels, was
a week-end guest at the home of her
brother, Robert and Mrs. geKinnon.
Mr, Gordon Messer spent Sunday
with Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Gallaher
at Salem.
Mr. C. B. Moffatt went to London
this week where he will spent part of
the whiter, with his daughter, Mrs.
Edith Sanderson.
Rev. Leland C. Jorgensen conducted
Communion services at Knox Presby-
terian church on Sunday morning. At
the preparatory service the preceeding
Friday evening, Mrs. Gordon Grieg
was received into membership by certi-
ficate from Wroxeter. The sacrament
of Baptism was administered to Hugh
Patrick, son of Mr. and. Mrs. J. Gordon
Mundell, James Eldon, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Eldon Kirton; John Robert, son
Former Prime Minister Dies
Earl Baldwin, 80, Prime Minister of
Great Britain, at the time of the abdic-
ation of Edward VIII in 1936, died in
his sleep Saturday night.
WESTFIELD
Mr. Howard Campbell attended the
Temperance Federation meeting at
Listowel on Wednesday.
Congratulations are extended to Mr.
and Mrs. Ernest Snell on the arrival of
a baby girl, born on Wednesday, Dec.
10th.
The Christmas meeting of the Mis-
sion Band was held in the school room
on Sunday afternoon, with a good at-
tendance. The meeting was_led by
Lorna Buchanan. Scripture, the Christ-
mas Story from St. Luke was read by
Gordon Smith. A reading was given by
Gwendolyn McDowell. The Study
Book was taken by Mrs. Charles Smith
and a Christmas Story was told by
