B.C.,was a guest of Mr: and Mrs. H.
V. olmes on Thursday evening. He
flew to Toronto from Victoria last
week to see his sister, Miss Eliza Mc-
Laughlin of Wroxeter, who is serious-
ly ill. Mr. McLaughlin, with his. bro-
ther, Wm. McLaughlin, conducted a
general store in Gorrie at one time.
Mr. and Mrs, Leonard King and
family have taken up residence in Lis-
towel.
The Community .Club sponsored
dance. on Tuesday evening last, The
Gorrie Orchestra furnished music.
Mr. and Mrs. Hilt Ashton have been
holidaying at Kincardine Beach with
their son, Lloyd'Ashton and Mrs. Ash-
ton.
Women's Association
The W.A. of the United Church,
met in the S.S. room on Thursday af-
ternoon with an attendance of 18. In
the absence of the President, Mrs. E.

Mrs. Wellington read a prayer from
a "nook of F arfu Prayer dating back
to 1906, given to her parents by a Nor-
wegian minister. The hymn :Come
let us sing *of a wonderful love was
sung. Business was conducted and
meeting closed by singing "Softly and
Tenderly Jesus is calling" and repeat-
ing the Mizpah Benediction, A quilt
was quilted during the afternoon,
Lunch,was served by Mrs. Gordon Ed-
gar and Mrs. Harold Hyndrnan, No
meeting will be, held in August.
Memorial Service
The Orange Memorial Service will
be held at the Gorrie Cemetery on.
Sunday, July 27th, at 2.30 p,m, Rev.
Jas. A, Burden, United Church min-
ister of Bluevale, will be the speaker,

farmers delay at their haying opera-
tions, but other crops are coming on

Bill 'Switzer narrowly escaped ser-
ious injury on Saturday evening when
gas ignited; caused by a lighted match,_
set fire to his clothing. His arms and
legs were 'burned before the fire was
extinguished.
Mr. and 'Mrs. Fred Dowdell and
Audrey of Toronto, spent the week-
end .with relatives here.
Mr, and Mrs, N. Cook of Clifford,
spent Monday with their daughter,

cousin of the bride, sang. The grooms
man was Torold alker, brother of the
groom and the ushers were Robert and

The bride wore a gown of white
Nylon marquisette Over taffeta made
on princess lines with a sweetheart
neckline and a short 'train, Her fing-
er-tip veil was held in place with or-
ange blossoms and she carried a white
prayer book with gardenias: The mat-
ron of honor was Mrs. Bruce Borland
and she wore a floor length gown of
pirik..brOcaded silk with a full skirt
styled with pannieres, matehing mit-
tens and headdress, and a bouquet of
pastel pink roses,
The reception was held in the parish
hall. The bride's mother wore. a frock
of powder blue crepe with black acces-
sories and corsage of roses and the
groom's mother wore a frock of bro-
caded crepe in powder blue with black
accessories and corsage of roses, For
the trip to points East Mrs, Walker
wore a frock in aqua flowered crepe
with black accessories. They will re-
side in Ingersoll,

The death • occurred on Saturday
afternoon, of one of Gorrie'S oldest
residents, Mrs. Julia Day, who passed
away in her 90th year, at the home of
her son,. Mr. Cecil Day. Funeral ser-
vice .Was held Monday afternoon. Our

them from Toronto, where they have

Community Club
The Community Club held their
regular monthly meeting at the home
of Mr, and Mrs. W. C. King on Mont
day' evening with E. W. Whitfield,
vice-pres., in the chair, Pleasure was
expressed at the progress being made
at the park also at the contributions
made to the fund, It was decided to
hold a .datice on Friday evening, Aug,
1st, A letter was read re the Red Cross
Swimming and Water Safety Ifistrti-
eter, Mrs. McKellar Field Supervisor
for 'Western Ontario would .give two
or three days instruction to an expert
SWitniner in Our own., community who
could carry on the work among the
children later, brit it was felt that otti
swimming facilities were IRA suited for
such instruction. .However, children
are swimming every day, and it would
be a fine thing for the community to
make it safer for them and avail them-
selves of the training an expert could
give.
