turned from a visit with their son and

Miss Loreen King has returned to
Toronto where she has taken a posi-
tion in the Bank of Montreal.

Strong, Mr. and Mrs. Hartwell Strong
and Stewart were at the StrOng Re-
union held in Hanover on Saturday,
June 28th.

family have been at their cottage, Am-
berly beach.
Anniversary Service
There was a good attendance at the
S. S. Anniversary service an Sunday
morning in the United Church. Rev. M.
G. Newton of St, Helens was guest
speaker and addressed the Sunday
School particularly, The church was
beautiful with baskets of peonies,.lupin
and summer flowers. There was special
music by the choir and John Neilson
of Listowel sang at both services. In
the evening Mr. Newton's subject was,
"The art of living together". His text
was John 4:4 "And He must needs go
into Samaria",
The Anglican congregations of
Fordwich, Gorrie and Wroxeter join-
ed in a picnic on Wednesday afternoon
in the Wroxeter Park. Ball games and
races were enjoyed. Refreshments were
served including ice cream, There was
a good attendance.
Mrs. Wm. Ferguson
Elizabeth Ferguson, wife of Wm.
Ferguson ,of Clifford passed away on
Saturday evening at the home of her
son, Emerson, near Clifford where she
had suffered a paralytic stroke on Fri-
day night. Previous to that she had
been in good health: In her 73rd year,
she was born in Howick township near
Orange Hill, the second daughter of
the late Andrew Montgomery and Is-
abella Kirk.
In February 1895 she was married to
Wm. Ferguson, also of Howick, where
they resided for a number of years,
later moving to Clifford,
Surviving are her husband, three
daughters: Agnes of Clifford; Elda,
Mrs. Wm. Horsburg of Holstein; Mar-
garet, Mrs. Ed. Watson of Holstein,
one son: Emerson of Clifford. TWo
sons died in infancy. One sister and
two brothers also survive: Mrs. Fred
Taylor, Gorrie; John Montgomery,
Gorrie and William, Wroxeter.
Mrs. Ferguson was a member of the
Anglican Church, active in the work
of the Women's Auxiliary and as, a
Red 'Cross worker. ,
The funeral service was held from
her home on Tuesday afternoon. Rev.
J. C. Caley, Gorrie, giving a sympath-
etic address and comforting message
from Psalm 90 verses 1-6, Rev. Mr.
Knox of the. United Church; Clifford,
assisted in the service,
Pallbearers were Robert Graham,
Geo. Hubbard, John Jackson, Sam
Burnett, Len Schmidt and Jacob Seip,
Flower bearers were seven nephews,
Torn Shearer; Andrew Shearer, Fred
Montgomery, John Montgomery jr.,
e ort, Y ontgarneay, Bob, Ban and
Bill.
Interment was in .Gorrie Cemetery,
Mrs, Andrew Cunningham
The death occurred in`Harriston of
Mrs. Andrew Cunningham, the former
Lydia Manser. Deceased who was in
her 77th year was for many years a
resident of Gorrie and of Howiek
Township, but had been living in Har-
riston for sometime, Interment took
place in Gorrie cemetery on Wednes-
day, June 25th.
Miss I3essie 'Wylie of Toronto, is
spending her vacation with her moth-
er, Mrs. J. Wylie.
Mr. and Mrs. Leeming Servos, Mil-
ton, also Mr. and Mrs, Walter Wel-
lington, Sarnia, were guests of Mr.
and Mrs. E. E. Wellington, for several
days last week,

dolen of the 9th line east, were, recent
visitors with Mr. and Mrs, Cecil Day
and Mrs, Julia Day,

were Sunday visitors with Mr, and
Mrs. Jas. Shera.
Mr. and Mr,s, Wm. Turner also

spent Sunday. last with Mr. and Mrs,
Hartwell Strong.

holiday with Mrs. Neilson.

Mr. and Mrs, 'Elgin King and dau-
ghter of Strathroy, are visiting their
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stephen King,
Mr. Robt. Stinson of Woodstock,
spent the holiday with his uncle, Mr.
Sam Stinson.

Mr. Sandy Gillen have returned to
Hespeler, after spending their vacat-

Briarcrest, Sash,, spent Monday with

Mr. and Mrs, Jerry Grey and two
Mr, and Mrs. Arthur Chapman. Mrs.
Grey. and the boys will remain with
her parents for the holidays.
Mrs. J. Underwood returned from
Listowel hospital, on Wednesday and
is at the home of her daughter, Mrs.
Wilbert Gallaway. Mrs. Underwood
still suffers considerable pain from
her limb which was fractured several
weeks ago.

anied Mr. Fraser Forgie and Mrs.
Forgie, to Elmira on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Art: Stephens and
family spent Sunday with friends in
Clifford.

Mr, Elgin McInnis of Toronto, spent
the week-end with his parents, Mr. and

grandson, Billy of Erin, are spending
a few weeks at the same home.

Mr. Harry Ferguson was in Isaa-
dowvale last week attending the fun-
eral of his aunt, Mrs. Ferguson, widow
of the late Rev. 5. J. Ferguson, He was
also in Lucan where his cousin had
passed away,
Gorrie To Have New Park
The Gorrie Community Club which
was formed a short time ago for the
improvement of the town and district,
made a good start last week when
work was commenced south of the
Maitland. river from the main street to
Maguire'S mill to make this natural
beauty Spot suitable for picnics and a
children's playground. Volunteer wor-
kers have been giving freely of their
time and a good deal of thanks is due
Addie Jacques who has levelled the
ground with his machine. Tables,
Seats and swings will be added, There
is still much to be done and the as-

on priday. Mrs, Jas. Armstrong and
Mrs. A. D. Armstrong accompanied
them as far as Mitchell where they
visited their sister-in-law.

Mrs, John Montgomery who mourn
the sudden passing- of their sister, Mrs.
Wm. Ferguson of Clifford.

Doran Thornton who is in Vic-
toria Hospital, London, as the result
of an accident on ednesday last,
when their tractor overturned on the
6th can. is getting along fairly well.
He suffered a broken shoulder and
serious chest injuries.
Mr. And, Emmerson who suffered
a severe heart attack three weeks ago
is still confined to bed.

Ronald, of Toronto, Mr. and Mrs.
Laurie Scott, Donald and Bobbie, of
Blyth, were recent visitors of Mrs,
Jas. Armstrong.
Mrs. Julia Day is very ill at the

Miss Mae Watters of Toronto, was
a week-end visitor with her sister,
Mrs. Clifford Dodds and Mr, Dodds.
Mr, and Mrs. Hugh Miller of Det-
roit, spent the week-end .with the for-
mer's mother, Mrs. A. Miller and Mr,
Archie Miller and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Elwyn Gregg of Van-
couver, B.C., were guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Carroll Gregg on Sunday and
Monday of last week. Mr. Elwyn
Gregg is the youngest son of the late
Mr. and Mrs. John Gregg, who farm-
ed near the Springbank cheese factory.
The family left here for Vancouver
over forty years ago.
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Ashton and
family of Toronto, are holidaying with
relatives here.
Mrs, A. D. Armstrong of Ripley, has
spent the past two weeks with her sis-
ter-in-law, Mrs. Jas. Armstrong.
The ladies of the United Church had
a very successful evening on Thursday
last, when they served an excellent
supper to a large gathering. The 3
act Drama "Betty, the Girl 0' My

under the direction of Art McIntyre. 1
Each' part was very well taken, Be-
tween acts Miss Audrey Hastie accom-
panied by Geo. Gregg sang and Mrs.
Clarence Sparling also sang accomp-
anied by Mrs, J. C. Caley, who gave
several piano numbers before the play.
Mr. W. G. Knox of Moose Jaw,
Sask., is making a short visit with his
brother-in-law, W. J. and Mrs. Galla-
her. Mr. Knox came East as a dele-
gate to the Canadian Seed Growers
Convention which was held at McDon-
ald College Quebec.
Mr. and Mrs. Barney Keemar of
Toronto, are visiting with Mr. and
Mrs. Harvey McDermott, 2nd. line.
