The May meeting of the Gorrie
L was held on Tuesday,,the 18th., at
the home of Mrs. Claren,ce Spading.
There was an attendance of thirty-five
members and visitors, quite a number
of visitors joined the Society. The
meeting opened in the usual way and
business got under way. Plans were
made to attend the Dist. Annual at
Ethel. A Committee was named to
pack the able for British Relief, Mrs.
Murray Edgar presented the Motto.
Mrs. Glenn Johnston outlined the Co-
Operative programme for the District
and Personality and Dress was the
first choice with care of Clothing as
second choice. Mrs. E. E. Welling-
ton gave the Branch Programme and
Quilts and Quilting was first choice
with Frozen Foods as second choice.
Mrs. E. E. Wellington then gave the
demonstration on Whole Grain Cer-
eals, making with part whole wheat
flour, an apple pie with crust made
from whole wheat flour. The cakes,
etc., were cut up and passed among
the ladies to be sampled and all agreed
that whole grain flours made whole-
some and delicious pastries. Mrs,
Bradnock had been appointed assistant
but owing to illness in the home she
was unable to attend.
The meeting closed by singing God
Save the King. A very delicious lunch
was then served by the hostess and her,
helpers.
The June meeting will be held in the
evening at the home of Mrs. .Glenn
Johnston with the Club 'Girls in
charge of program and lunch.

Elmira, who has taken possession. Mr,

Mr, and ;Mrs. Hartwell Strong and
Stewart, attended the wedding of Mrs.
Strong's niece, Miss Virginia Wither-
ow near Mount Forest on Saturday.
Mr. Llyod Hockeridge of Graven-
hurst, is visiting his aunt, Mrs. T.
Bradnock and Mr. Bradnock.
Dr. and Mrs. L. N. Whitely were in
Clinton and Goderich on Friday at-
tending the funeral of Dr. Whitely's
Lousin,
Rev, G. Everitt Ashton, minister of
Ottawa United Church, iWndsor, for
the past 11. years has accepted a call
to Melvville United Church, Fergus.
Mi. Ashton is a son of the late Rev
W. J. Ashton and a nephew of Mrs.
Robt, Ashton.
Our sympathy is extended to Mrs.
August Keil whose brother, Mr. Chas.
Grosz died last week in Kitchener.
Mr. and Mrs. Keil attended the funeral
on hurTsday. Mr. Grosz was a former
resident of Wallace Township,
United Church W.A.
'The Women's Association held their
monthly meeting at the home of Mts.
Robt, Harrison on Thursday, with the
president, Mrs. Hilt Ashton presiding.
The hymn, "Wonderful words of Life"
opened the meeting with Mrs. Howse
leading in prayer, The 23rd psalm was
repeated in unison. All joined in sing-
ing "Take the name of Jesus with
you." This was followed by business
and tilt hymn "Scatter seeds of kind,
ness was sung. Plans were made for
holding a garden party. Work was
done on a quilt for Mrs. Harrison and
another quilt put together.
Mrs. T. Simpson has sold her home
here to Mr.and Mts. John Gamble, on
the 15th concession.
Mrs. Margaret Clinkenbroomer
Mr Wm, Corbett received' word of
the death of his sister, Mrs. Margaret
Clinkenbrooiner at Evanston, Illinois,
on Tuesday of last week. She was the
daughter of the late John Corbett and
,Eliza Nay, and was born in Howiek
Township in 1857, thus being in her
90th year. Surviving are three sons
And a daughter residing in the States.
Mrs, Ciinkenbroomer was a resident of
Gorrie for a number of years.
An accident occurred on Thursday
evening about a mile and a half south
of the village when till Thornton,
driving north Into Gorrie in attempting
to pass Don Campbell's truck skidded
into the truck which turned his car
over. 13111 eseaped with only minor
iti.ittries but his car was badly wrecked.

operation in Victoria Hospital, Lon-
don, on Friday, Friends are hoping
for a good recovery,

David, visited with Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Mitchell, Molesworth, on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. David Ritchie of Tees-
water, visited Mrs. J. Armstrong on
Sunday.

Toronto, spent the week-end with the
former's parents, Mr. and Mrs, R.

on Monday evening was much enjoyed
by the goodly number in attendance.
The play, was produced by Good Will
Chapter O.E.S. with a cast from Clif-
ford and Harriston. Each player took
his part well and the impersonator
of "Kitty" created many humorous and
embarassing scenes. Between acts,
