former's sister, Mrs, McBride of Ham-
ilton on ,Thursday of laSt week.

Mr. Stewart Johnston has purchased
from Mr. Harvey McCallum the ten'
acres of land at the north end of the
village on Queen Street,
Mr, Albert Sellers has sold his
dwelling on Dinsley Street to Mr. Fred
Oster and is ,now in Possession.
Mr. Lloyd Wettlaufer of Burgess-
ville, was in Blyth on Sunday and re-
turned home in the evening accompan-
ied by Mrs. Wettlaufer, who .had spent
a month with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. 1. H. R, Elliott.
Mrs. Gordon Elliott and babe re-
turned from Goderich Hospital on
Sunday. The new arrival is to be nam-
ed Bertram Grant.
The Women's Institute combined
their regular meeting with a program
honoring the 50th anniversary of the
Women's Institute, Tire President pre
sided, business pertaining to the Dist-
rict Animal to be held May 2001.,, in
the Memorial Hall. Community sing-
ing opened the program with Mrs. R,
D, Phillip at the piano. Mrs. Fred Os-
ter chairman of London Area gave a
brief outline of the founding of Wo-
men's Institutes and the growth of the
organization during the 50 years, Mrs.
Lorne Ivey, District President, brought
greetings and good wishes from the
District.
Mrs, Bernard Hall gave art outline
of the work of Blytit Branch since its
organization May 12th., 1910, and a
ist of the Presidents and Secretaries
during that time. An impressive ser-
vice followed when 60 tapers on the
anniversary cake were lit by the three
Charter members who live here, Mrs.
Margaret Tiernay; Mrs. Robert Whitey
than, Mrs. Robert. Newcombe, other
chatter members, Mrs, Bender, Mrs,
MeTaggart and Mrs. 3, B. 'new,
Blyth,
A memorial service followed. Yellow
daffodils were plated hi sliver baskets,
those placing the flowers were, Mrs, 13.

SPECIAL LUNCHEON PLATE
1. Season 2 cups medium white sauce
with 112 tsp. salt and 118 tsp. pepper,
add 2 tsps. vinegar and 1 tsp. Wor-
cestershire sauce.
2. Add 2 cups cooked cubed ham, 1 cup
drained peas and 1 slice of onion,
3. Serve between and on top of split
tea biscuits.
4. Decorate with a sprig of water-
cress.
TEA BISCUITS
2 cups flour, 4 tbsps. baking
powder, 1 tsp, salt, 2 tbsps. shdrt-
'ening, 314 cup liquid (all milk or
half milk and half water).
Mix dry ingredients and sift twice.
Work in shortening with tips of the
fingers, or cut in with two knives. Add
the liquid gradually, mixing with a
knife to a soft dough. Owing to dif-
ferences in flours, it is not always pos-
sible to determine the exact amount of
liquid. Toss an a floured board, pat
and roll lightly to one-half inch in
thickness, Shape with a biscuit-cut-
ter, Bake in a hot electric oven (450
Begs.) 12 to 15 mins.
ORANGE UPSIDE DOWN CAKE
1 tbsp. shortening, 11 2cup gran.
sugar, 213 cup boiling water, 112
cup orange juice, 2 tsps. grated
rind, 1 tbsp. shortening, 213 cup
granulated sugar, 1 cup sifted pas-
try flour, 1 tsp. baking powder, '112
cup milk,
(1) Blend first 5 ingredients togeth-
er and pour into a greased cake pan or
individual glass baking dishes, (2)
Cream 1 tbsp. shortening and add 213
cup sugar gradually. (3) Mix: and sift
dry ingredients twice and add alter-
nately with milk to creamed mixture,
((4) Drop in spoonfuls on top of of
orange mixture. (5) Bake in a preheat-
ed electric oven of 400 legs, for 5
mins. thefireduce heat to moderate (350
degs), and bake for about 35 mins,
Yield; Six servings.

ed when it was learned that Mrs. Cam-
eron Adams, had. passed away in Wel-
lesly Hospital, Toronto, an Tuesday,
April 29th, The funeral was held from
her late residence on Thursday to the
Brussels cemetery. We extend our
